I don't know what else this land could have been used for any better than this. Just look at the apartment buildings going up now around here, and some of these we've made it happen with the Knights.
We only have 2 goals, and it's the same every year: the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost. And it's not an either/or. Anybody can do that. It's both at the same time. It's why we won the Eagle Award 2 years ago. It's the best airport in the world.
And I thought it was one of the most audacious thoughts I had ever heard, the idea of taking 15 counties in Piedmont North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina and building an interconnected system of trails.
I've been reasonably financially successful, and a lot of people leave behind and give to different places their money. I thought, why in the hell don't I spend some of my own money for creating something good for mankind?
We want our students to understand that they are part of a thriving, real world, so we want them to be part of this vibrant community and have a beautiful place to live and learn.
So this region is going global, and it's time for us to take our place on the international stage in a much bigger way.
