Dr. Murray Brockman | Kim Brattain Media

In this talk, Dr. Murray Brockman describes the South Carolina Governor's School as a "school with no limits," founded by the General Assembly in 1988 to cultivate technology leaders in a state with modest resources. He highlights the school's impressive outcomes: 100% of graduates attend college, 80% pursue graduate degrees, and 70% enter science or math careers. Alumni secure positions at top companies like Google and attend elite universities—Stanford (ranked #1) and MIT (ranked #2) among them, making the school #3 in graduate placement. All faculty hold advanced degrees, with 80% possessing PhDs or terminal degrees, underscoring academic rigor. Despite a small enrollment of about 280 students in Hartsville, the school maintains extensive global partnerships that enable students to excel and meet the talent needs of companies statewide and nationally, supporting competitiveness in the global economy.
