The fundraising film showcases Goodwill’s mission through a series of personal testimonies and narrative commentary. It highlights how Goodwill’s training programs—ranging from banking and customer service to construction, hospitality, and tourism—equip participants with both technical skills and the right attitude, leading to job placement and career advancement. The video emphasizes Goodwill’s holistic approach: identifying individual barriers, aligning personal passions with career paths, and providing paid, hands‑on training that builds pride, dignity, and community belonging. It also explains the donation‑to‑store model, where donated goods are sold or recycled, generating revenue that funds these training programs and creates social‑enterprise jobs. The overall message is that Goodwill’s “power of work” transforms lives, strengthens the community, and offers a sustainable cycle of giving and opportunity.
Chapters
We have some impressive numbers, but it's really about the individual stories, and every person has a story. They was able to encourage me and keep me motivated in order to pursue my career. I really know that, okay, I can go, I can do more. I can be a manager. I can do anything that I choose to do with the help. Goodwill truly changes lives through the power of work. Take an inside look at Lakendra's banking and customer service class. She's already a college graduate but lost her job and needed more training to prepare her for the world of work. Other Goodwill classes focus on construction, hospitality, and tourism. School taught me that skills that I needed to get a job, but at Goodwill, they train you on the attitude. She embodies the goal that we have here with her spirit. You know, her essence is to make a difference. It's a commitment, and I'm so glad that she was added to this team. I'm grateful to Goodwill for getting her here. What Goodwill really understands is that for our community to thrive, people need to have employment. And every year Goodwill trains thousands of people and coaches thousands of people to, that have barriers to appointments, help them find that appointment. And think about it, what better benefit to our community is something like that? What makes our local Goodwill so unique is that people may come to us initially in search of a job, but we really work with them to understand We understand what are the barriers, what are the things that they're dealing with, and we meet them at that point to try to provide assistance. I think Goodwill prepares people because they don't just take people and ask them what they like to do. They find out what people love to do and then help guide them into a career that shows their positive attributes. I was able to get job placement, and I don't think I'd have been able to do it without Goodwill. Goodwill is much more than job training and placement. It's a collective of our community's kindness. It's your goodwill that starts everything. Do you need a receipt today, ma'am? I'm giving away a few things to Goodwill, things that I think that other people may be able to use. It's a win-win because this way we get to give things that we're no longer using to a family that's in need, and it's better than throwing it out and filling up landfills. Your donations fill Goodwill stores And items sold fund training. Your electronics are recycled and kept out of the landfill. Some of your donated books are sold on Amazon and eBay. And the people you see working— It's one of our social enterprises. All the gentlemen you see here are getting meaningful training hours and preparing to re-enter the workforce. Put that on their resume and they get experience and it's And the best part of it is it's paid. It's paid job training. And that's the beauty of the Goodwill model. It's, uh, we take the best that the community has to offer us in terms of the things that they give us that they no longer need, and we take those items and we convert them into this great currency that translates into greater opportunity and potential for the people we serve. Opportunities. The power of work. Your goodwill begins a process that makes our community strong. My past was rough. In and out of prison, drug sales, auto theft. It was rough. I was going down a dark, dark path. I remember I signed up one day, started the class like a week later. Now 3 years now, now look at what I am. I'm operations manager. of a $1.5 million a year company. Who would have ever thought that this kid would be running someone else's business for them? I've had people tell us that this person will never get a job, and 2 years later he got a job. And it's about pride, dignity, about belonging, and being just like everybody else in the community. I have people on my side that cares for me. It was a life-changing thing for me. They saw something in me that I didn't see in myself. Now you see what a little good will do.
