When Women Executives was just 10 years old, all the members were trailblazers. They were women who were first in their companies. The first female corporate attorney, the first partner in a Big 8 firm, the first investment advisor. Acknowledging our successes, we believed we had a responsibility to give back.
We felt that it was really important for us to support other women, additional women in our community, to achieve their dreams.
WINGS is a mentoring and scholarship program where the women of WE help to provide the scholarship program and the mentoring for the women to help non-traditional students who are over 25 go back to school to earn their education and to improve the prospects for their families going forward.
This was a novel idea at the time to create an organization by women Gosh, I've learned so many different things from them.
You know, what a confident woman looks like. It's helped me in my career. To have a program like this where they want to help women in the community and see them, you know, be their best selves, it's great. And so I'm just so grateful and thankful to them.
WINGS just It just heightened my life even more than I was aspiring to do. It helped me to see women in business and see that that was an opportunity that I could embark upon.
I do think about the Margaret Mead quote a lot when I think about women executives and WINGS. I'll change it a little bit, but she says, Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed women can change the world. And that's what I think we're doing right here in Charlotte. I think we're changing the world with every single story of our own and of our WINGS scholars.
