Kim Gaskill talks about patience through a story of watching a hawk hunt. The hawk waits motionless for the right moment, then strikes and catches a rodent. Sometimes the hardest part isn't the action, it's the waiting.

Hey guys, it is a new day. What are you gonna do with it? I'm Kim Gaskill and this is the Daily Spark. Patience. They tell me I'm gonna have to have patience to work through all this stuff and get well. And it's tough. That's one of the lessons that is usually a difficult one for most people. Especially people that like to get things done, that like to be on the move a lot. Patience is usually a difficult characteristic to master. But I'm sitting here at the window watching this hawk outside this morning, and patience comes to mind because I'm watching this hawk and it's just sitting in a tree, probably 50 or 60 yards away from the building. Maybe a little further. And he just sits there and waits. Now there's a few clumps of brush and greenery, some shrubs, low, low shrubs that are in this basically desert parking lot outside this building. And so there are several areas where some rodents and stuff could be making a habitat. But he's just sitting there. Now I know his eyes are much better than mine, and of course he swoops in to one of the little piles of green and leaves with nothing. So then I watch him and he goes back to the tree and just sits patiently watching And he flies out and swoops down to another little patch of green, flies away, doesn't have anything. And for about an hour and a half, I'm watching him, and he makes about 4, 4 attempts. Every time, he goes back to the tree, sits there and watches patiently, finds another little clump of green where he sees movement, and he dives in. And on the 4th try, He comes up with a little rodent in his claw and then he flies off to his nest. But it took a couple hours for him to find that perfect patch and the perfect timing to grab that food. And I'm thinking, patience is required for success a lot of times. Do you have the patience required to keep trying, to sit and watch, to wait till the perfect opportunity where everything comes together in that moment for success. Because usually success is just one step further, and people give up too soon. So I hope you have the patience today to wait for that opportunity that leads to your success. Catch you again tomorrow for another Daily Spark.
