It's a new day. I'm Kim Gaskill and this is the Daily Spark. The early bird gets the worm. I know you've heard that before. You probably said it before. I'm standing out here in a rainy, gloomy morning It's not too chilly, about 60 degrees, so it's not bad, but it's wet out here and the birds are having a field day in the yard, and they have been for the last few hours. It made me think of that early bird gets the worm because they're out there literally getting worms out of the ground. Now I don't know if the early bird gets the worm means after a certain time in the morning the worms are too far down in the ground and the birds can't really get them, or if it's because when it's raining the— or moist, which in the mornings there's usually dew on the grass— that the worms come up to the surface and come out of the ground and it's easier for them to pick them off. They don't have to work so hard if they get up early and get that first bit of dew that's on the grass and the worms coming out, or the first part of a rainy day before the sun comes out and dries everything up and they head back down into the earth. The likelihood that they're going to get the best return on their investment is pretty high. So I think that's where the term early bird gets the worm Now, I was also talking to my sister-in-law yesterday, and Wawa is one of the local convenience stores out here, gas stations, and they're pretty big. And on their app, they give away free rewards like a lot of other companies do. And she saw that M&M's, free M&M's popped up on her reward screen, and she's like, oh, I have to go to Wawa and get them. I said, well, mine says I have a month on my free thing. She said, no, I only have 3 days. She goes, but if you're not one of the first people to go when it's an item like that that they purchase and bring into the store, not like their drinks that they make or anything like that that they can have an unlimited amount of, the stuff that they buy and get into the store, if you're not the early bird that gets in there, you don't get the worm, you don't get the M&M's, because they're all gone. Everybody's in there getting their free reward. So that first come, first serve, early bird gets the worm— all of those sayings come from not dragging your feet. If something needs to be done and you want to get in there in a limited field of opportunity, you need to be early, you need to be first, you need to be determined to get in there and get your share. So think about that. Get in there and get your share today, and catch me again tomorrow for another Daily Spark.
