This is a YouTube video titled "DS155 Loyalty Cards Wawa" (Daily Spark) published April 30, 2019 featuring Kim Gaskill. In a short monologue she discusses loyalty-card apps and rewards programs—saying she frequently uses the Starbucks app, has tried others (Dunkin', Wawa), and is frustrated that Wawa's loyalty app repeatedly failed to apply credits. She describes calling customer service, deciding the app isn’t worth the hassle for her, and offers the takeaway that if a convenience doesn’t work for you, don’t just follow the crowd.

It's a new day. I'm Kim Gaskill and this is the Daily Spark. Loyalty cards. Do you use them? Do you use those apps that you scan and pay through the app, put a card in there, install all your information and get perks and benefits and rewards. Some of them are quite nice. I use the Starbucks app all the time. That's one of my probably most used apps. But I've tried like Dunkin' Donuts, which I don't really drink Dunkin' Donuts coffee, and I don't do donuts, so I'm not sure why I want it on there. There's a convenience store out here called Wawa, out here on the East Coast, and they're pretty big. And I've tried their app, and this morning I'm frustrated because I'm— for about the fourth or fifth time now, I've tried using their loyalty program and their app, and I just can't seem to get it to work. I've paid cash and not got credit. I've bought gift cards and installed them in the app and not got credit. It just seems to have a problem with applying what I purchased to the rewards, and I'm totally frustrated. It's one of those things, it's not a really big deal, but if you're gonna have something that you say is a benefit or a convenience for a customer, it should work. If it's more of an inconvenience and more frustration, you're defeating the whole purpose of the program, of the app, of the card. So what say you? Do you use those programs, or are they just too frustrating? Like I think some of them are. At this point, it's the principle of the thing though. I did call their customer service today and explain my frustration and that if they're going to have something, that it should work. And I just wanted to vent to you that I am not happy it doesn't work, and, and I probably won't use them. Um, and she was quite nice and, you know, wanted to give me all these things. I'm like, I don't want anything. I just want you to know that It really isn't working properly, and if there's anything you can do, I would appreciate if you fix it. But honestly, for me, it's not really worth the hassle. So I think I'll just go in and purchase my stuff with cash or a card normally and disregard their app altogether. And sometimes we need to make that choice, even though it might be a benefit and a convenience for other people. It's not necessarily that way for us. And if it isn't, don't just follow the crowd. Do your own thing. And join me again tomorrow for another Daily Spark.
