Welcome to a new day. I'm Kim Gaskill and this is the Daily Spark. Do you ever get annoyed? Come on, admit it. I get so annoyed sometimes at people and at things. And you know, I find myself sometimes focusing on what is annoying me instead of trying to just move past it and get away from it, get over it and onto something else. Because the more that I sit there and just focus on being annoyed, it seems like the more annoyed I get. Like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, or I'm waiting for that person to just do something so over the top, so over the edge that I can tell myself, "Ha! See, I told myself so." like I was right. I know I'm right in the beginning. It's annoying me. Yes, move on. But we can't do that sometimes. Sometimes you're in a situation or you're around people that are going to annoy you. There's nothing you can do about it. You have to stay right there. So you have to find ways to not let yourself spiral down into a very angry, dark, ugly place. And it's different for everybody. If you're annoyed by people in social media especially, unfriend them. Unfollow them. You don't have to follow them. That's the easiest one there is. But let's say you're annoyed because you have one of those aunts or grandmas that comes in and, you know, just grabs your cheeks and hugs you real tight and kisses you 10 times every time they see you, and they do it because they love you. You get kind of annoyed, maybe. You can't tell them that you're annoyed. That's one of those things you just have to suck it up and accept that one. And there are going to be those. And come on, we all have those. But the ones that annoy you that you can make that choice to make a change, to move away from it, or to put yourself in a happy place somewhere. And let it pass. Those are the ones that you have to figure out how not to let it annoy you, how not to get angrier and stay all worked up. And believe me, it's a learning process. One of the biggest things that you can do to avoid being annoyed is voice your concerns, voice your opinion about what somebody's doing. If it annoys you, you have to let them know. If I'm annoying somebody, all I can ask is for you to tell me that it's annoying you so I can stop. Now, it might be just who I am. It might be something that I can't stop doing. But if I know that it annoys you, I will try my best not to do it when I'm around you. But I don't know that if you don't tell me. So the first thing is be honest. Voice your honesty with people and let them know if something's annoying you so that they have the opportunity to change it. And if all else fails, put on headphones. A lot of times you don't even have to listen to anything. People will leave you alone if you have headphones on, or you can always use the excuse, "Oh, I'm sorry, did you say something?" and really not be listening to them. I hope you are not annoyed today and you join me again tomorrow for another daily spark.
