This is a YouTube video titled "103 Books and Plays" (Daily Spark) published March 29, 2019 featuring Kim Gaskill delivering a short English monologue. She reflects on seeing Phantom of the Opera and her own high-school theater experience, describes feeling overwhelmed by multiple medical appointments, and uses the metaphor of stages/acts/chapters to advise breaking tasks into manageable, consumable chunks for personal life and business.
Chapters
It's a new day. I'm Kim Gaskill and this is the Daily Spark. Have you ever been in a play? Like when you were in high school, were you in musicals or plays? Have you ever written a book or a course that you had to break out into chapters? You know, when I went to my first Broadway play. I saw Phantom of the Opera. It was a fantastic experience. None, nothing like it since. And I loved it. And I was also in musicals and plays when I was in high school. And I was thinking this morning, I don't know why I was thinking of that, but I'm kind of overwhelmed with all the appointments I have to make and all the different things that have been wrong with my body that I have to deal with each one separately with a different specialist, and, and that can be overwhelming sometimes. And, and I have to tell myself, okay, this is going to be in stages. So I got to thinking about stages, like the, the stage on Broadway, and chapters and books and how we break things down. When we're talking about a play or a musical, or we're talking about a book, they don't just throw it all in your face all at once for you to take that in, because we can't separate all of that activity into consumable chunks. So they do it for us. They have acts and chapters, and it helps focus our energy on what's specific to that block of activity. And then once we absorb that and process it, we go on to the next. And now we're in a little bit different frame of mind or space where we can consume that chunk. And we really need to do that for ourselves and in our business as well. Break things down into consumable, manageable chunks, segments, or chapters that you can focus on, be very specific, get it done, and not become overwhelmed. That's what I'm going to try to do today. I hope you can use that as well, and I'll catch you again tomorrow for another Daily Spark.
