Kim Gaskill talks about getting cortisone shots in her wrist and shoulder while on blood thinners, and the temporary weight gain that comes with them. She argues the short-term downsides are worth the long-term relief, a principle that applies to business decisions too.

It's a new day. I'm Kim Gaskill, and this is the Daily Spark. Have you ever had to do one of those things you know is good for you, but you also know there's going to be a downside? You know, right out of the chute, something isn't— you're not gonna like something, but it's good for you. You know you need to do it for you or your business. Last week I had to get a cortisone shot in my wrist. This week, yesterday, I got a cortisone shot in my shoulder. Now I know those are both going to help. They're going to help me with some of the pain I've been having and the inflammation. But I also know from past experience there's a downside to that for me. Now, the downside to actually doing them, to finding a doctor that would do them when I'm on a blood thinner, was difficult. A lot of doctors wouldn't do it. But the downside for me was I know that it's going to put weight on me, at least 10 pounds. Every time I get a cortisone shot, I, I gain like 10 pounds, and it's super hard for me to get it off. And I've been working on my diet and exercise plan for a while now. I got myself a fitness coach and we're working hard on getting me back on track. But there are things that I've done in my business that I know are going to benefit me. But the downside is I either have to invest time or I have to invest money. And on the front end, we always look at that. We always seem to focus on the downside. Oh, that's going to cost me a lot, or, oh, I'm going to, you know, have to do without to do this or take a whole week to go there, or Whatever it is, stop looking at the downside. You have to be aware of it, but don't focus on it. Focus on the positive. Focus on what in the long run is gonna propel your business or propel you forward in the direction that you need to, exponentially increasing the positivity of you or your business. So if that downside that you're looking at is a temporary thing or a small thing compared to the good that's gonna come from it, then just get that shot. Just do it, because you'll thank yourself in the end, even though there may be a short struggle and the downside. I mean, we see it in politics too, all these good things that everybody wants to do. There is a downside to everything. That's why there's an argument with whatever everything they want to do, because they're focusing on the positive, what they want to accomplish, not the downside that all the naysayers are saying we can't do this. So go out there and look at the things that you need to do. Take a hard look at it. Recognize the downside. Acknowledge it. But focus on the positive. Catch you again tomorrow for another Daily Sparkle.
