It's a new day. I'm Kim Gaskill, and this is the Daily Spark. I'm laying here looking at a clock on the wall. It's a very pretty clock, has black wrought iron around it. Has kind of a rustic face on it with the Roman numerals. Nice looking clock. It never tells the right time. Well, actually, twice a day I guess it's right, but it, it runs, it ticks, makes noise, kind of moves around a little bit sometimes, but it's— it doesn't keep time correctly. But it's a pretty clock. And the room that I'm in, as I lay there at night and the house is totally quiet, all I hear is that tick, tick, tick of that clock running. Now, if I'm not paying attention to it, I don't even notice that it's there. But when I'm laying there awake and I don't hear anything else in the house, it becomes deafening. It becomes so annoying because that's what I'm focusing on. When I'm doing other things and I'm distracted, I don't even know it's there. But when it's the only thing there and I'm not focused on anything else, I become laser focused on that. So I finally asked my brother if he would take the batteries out of that clock so that if I wake up in the middle of the night, I don't lay there awake listening to that tick, tick, tick. And I finally got a great night's sleep. Is there something that you have in your life that's doing that? Is there a clock on the wall for you that you need to go remove the batteries from? It's something you don't even notice when you're doing other things, but when you're still and you're quiet and you're not distracted by other things, is it there? Super hyper-focused, over-emphasized, and annoying or distracting you? And you just need to remove the batteries. If it is, then go do it, because those little things that we can remove like that, they're just distractions. The more distractions we can get out of our way, the better we are at focusing on what we need to focus on and moving in the direction we need to move. So check your clocks today. And catch me again tomorrow here for another Daily Spark.
