It's a new day. I'm Kim Gaskill and this is the Daily Spark. Well, I did it this morning. I went down that rabbit hole watching Facebook videos. I was sitting back there having my coffee, looking out into the woods like I do every morning, and I normally don't pick up my phone for the first 15-20 minutes. I just kind of meditate and think about what I need to do for the day. Be thankful, all of that kind of stuff. Well, this morning when I picked up my phone and I was checking some messages and checking my feeds and things, somebody had sent me a video. So I watched this video, and then of course immediately after that, you know, you have that list of videos that Facebook autoplays if you don't get out of it. And I got sucked in. The very first one sucked me in, and so then I just kept watching. And it's funny because normally the very first one is something like funny cat videos or whatever that you just can't help yourself watching. But it was actually one on a message of communication, which is, you know, about the book I'm writing. So of course I got sucked into it. And then once I watched that one, I watched another one, and then I watched another one, and then I watched another one. I watched like 7 of them, and they were all on different topics. They were from one end of the spectrum to the other. So it wasn't like it was anything that I had gone out seeking or that was benefiting me because I was, you know, in the zone of, you know, writing and I needed to, you know, they were all sparking something on that topic. It was random. It was so random. So it took me all over the place, you know, from one thought to the next, like every couple of minutes. And not that that's a bad thing, but that can be a huge time suck. And so I got to thinking, I've been watching way too much TV and more of those types of videos that I don't intend to watch. Not that they're good or bad, I just don't intend to spend that time doing that. So I need to start paying more attention to how much time I'm using watching TV, watching— I call them useless videos, but I don't want to, you know, try to imply that they're bad or a waste of time, because some people really enjoy them or get something out of them. Whatever it is, if it makes you smile, if it makes you think, if it makes you question or spark a conversation, that's my intent with this flash briefing, is just to bring up some spark of, of communication topic or thought process. And so if people need that to get a thought going, then by all means watch it. But what I got to thinking today is, am I making the best use of my time? I don't need to stop watching them, but I need to modify how much time I'm spending watching them. Because it's taking away from time I should be working on other things in my business and in my personal life. And so I'm gonna work on that today and set some time limits for myself. And if you find yourself there, I challenge you to work on that today too. And join me again tomorrow.
