Kit Glaisyer painted a smaller version of an earlier work, letting the sky soften and the valley fill with more mist. The 90 by 30 centimeter oil captures West Dorset's subtle light through increased contrast between mist and hill outlines, with a broader tonal range from foreground to background.

So now this is the 3-foot version of my Gentle Evening on Egerton Hill. It's a 90 by 30 centimeter canvas, even gentler than the last one, the 4-foot one I posted about. In this one, you can see how when I paint, I'm never kind of restrained by feeling that I have to follow a particular formula. So this one here, the sky in particular is just a lot softer than the 4-foot version. And then there's more of these mists in the valley, which I really enjoyed painting. And just a bit more pronounced, all this stuff. Yeah, the contrast between the mists and the outlines of the hills, just really enjoying all these different tonalities. So there you can see the tonal range from the foreground to the background, and all of these sort of subtleties of light and tone can really evoke, yeah, just those really lovely gentle moments that we have, particularly in West Dorset. And this is, yeah, one of my favorite subjects, I think.
