A British painter describes working on this spring landscape west of Bridport across multiple seasons: starting en plein air, developing it in the studio for months, then returning to the site to capture the fresh light as the season changed. The goal was a lively, light-filled atmosphere.
So this painting is called 'A Spring Path on Allington Hill', which is a hill just to the west of Bridport looking out across the Marshwood Vale. If you go up to the top of this hill up this path, then you have wonderful views across the Marshwood Vale towards Lewiston Hill and Pilsdon Pen. What's interesting about this painting is that unlike a lot of them, I actually started this as a plein air painting on location and then brought it back to my studio, worked it up over a few months, and then I brought it back to the location to finish it because I wanted that feeling of the fresh light. Of course, by the time I brought it back, it was no longer spring, but I really just wanted a few touches of paint to give it that sense of lively light. So most of the painting was already made.
