The artist describes a large oil painting on unprimed flax canvas of a Dorset-Devon hillside. He sized the canvas with transparent glue to keep its warm, rough surface, which suits the dirt, roots, and branches he painted. He's still working on the light behind a distinctive tree.

So yeah, this is a 7-foot painting I'm currently working on. It's a view from Lewiston Hill in West Dorset. It's right up on the Dorset-Devon border. This is, yeah, so this is 210 by 90, is it? 918 by 21 centimeters. And it's this lovely unprimed flax So what I do is I just, I size the flax with this transparent glue, and that allows me to keep this lovely warm, earthy, kind of very rough surface, which I love. And it really suits the subject matter when you're painting dirt and roots and branches and foliage. It's, it's, it's very scratchy, you could say, a bit like nature. And it's obviously a very familiar subject matter to me, which I've painted many times. This tree here, I painted the sun setting behind that several years ago. And then this one here is— again, it's a very distinctive tree. And then with this painting, it's got this light behind it, which I'm going to keep working on because there's a particular ambience to it that I'm hoping to achieve. Well, I will achieve in, in time, but it's quite nice to put it up and just enjoy it and look at it and just think about it for the time being.
