An artist shows a landscape painting of West Dorset created five minutes before sunset, using wet-in-wet glazing to capture the hill's glowing light. It's a companion to an earlier commission painted the same day, when the sun had already set behind the ridge.

So yeah, today I wanted to do a quick video about this painting, which is a view near Whitchurch, Clillicourham. And this is a companion piece to a commission I made a few years ago, and this one is about 5 minutes before the other one. So the other one, the sun has set behind the hill, and this one it's just setting And I really love making this because this is basically wet-in-wet painting, it's called. So a lot of this painting is very gradually built up with glazes, you know, it's layer after layer, just getting just the right balance of tone and color. And then I do that, and then this area on the left because it's this very immediate, ever-changing light of, you know, this hill basically glowing with the sun, and then the shadows coming from the sun, and then the different shades of the trees. It's— you have to paint it sort of quickly. You have to you have to sort of respond to what's happening. You can't really work it out beforehand, if you see what I mean. So this is why it's wet in wet. So there's basically, there's an underpainting, but then the actual painting itself, all of these layers around here are all, you know, painted when they're still wet. So wet layers into wet layers, and then the rest of the painting is just a more patiently painted piece. So yeah, it's a real favourite of mine, one that I've kept hold of, and the actual commission was also one that I really loved. It'd be lovely to show them together one day actually. So yeah, there's that one there, an October view near Whitchurch, Colincorum, in West Dorset.
