In this video, Kirsten Mulcahy introduces a Cornish folk song from her native county and performs "Sweet Nightingale." She sings lyrical verses that evoke pastoral imagery: a nightingale singing in a valley, primroses by a riverbank, a thrush in a bush, and the interplay of birds like hawks and larks. The performance showcases traditional Cornish musical phrasing and a gentle, narrative delivery, emphasizing the song’s themes of natural beauty and romantic longing. The content consists solely of the sung lyrics, with no spoken commentary beyond the brief introduction.

I'm now going to move on to a Cornish folk song, which is where I'm originally from, so my home county. This is called Sweet Nightingale. My sweetheart, come along, don't you hear the sweet song of the beautiful nightingale flow? You will hear the fun tale of the sweet nightingale as she sings in the valley below. As she sings in the valley below. Grace, sit yourself down with me on the ground, on the banks where the primroses grow. You will hear the fond tale of the sweet nightingale as she sings in the valley below. As she sings in the valley below. Down in yonder grove there is an echo And for her that's reddish to spring, just by in a bush there sits a sumptuous thrush. 'Twill charm you to hear how she sings. 'Twill charm you to hear how she sings. Why hawk might have hawk, why yonder's a lark, she warbles and pleases me so. That's a beautiful tale of the sweet nightingale. Will never entice me to go. Will never entice me to go.
