Artist shows a small oil sketch of the view from South Bowood in West Dorset, looking toward the sea. The sketch uses incoming light from the right and shadow play in the foreground to create depth, with the sky dominating the composition.
So this is another small oil sketch on oil paper for a large 8-foot commission. And I was doing this a couple of years ago, and it's really interesting to look back on it. I remember that the, the view is this amazing view from South Bowood in West Dorset. Looking directly south across the marshy vale and towards the sea in the distance. And obviously the main sort of focus of the painting are these amazing skies up above and the light coming in on the right. And then we've got the light and the shadows in the foreground, which is really lovely. And then really just trying to get that feeling of depth really from all the way across towards the sea.
