An oil sketch of West Milton in Dorset, a preparatory study for an 8-foot painting. The artist painted it from a hilltop view near a converted barn, capturing the area's rolling hills and tiny lanes. It's one of several sketches exploring composition for the larger work.
Now this is another oil sketch of another large 8-foot painting, and this is in West Milton, which is just to the northeast of Bridport. And it's got these wonderful, very small lanes and rolling hills, very easy to get lost in there. And it's ancient sort of landscape, you could say. And this was a collector who owned this little barn which he was converting down in the valley. So I always look for a view, and I walked up the hill to the north of the barn and had this wonderful view back down across the the landscape. And I've done a whole series of sketches on this series, on this, in this, yeah, just to explore ideas really.
