Of Million Dollar Mastermind. We're here talking with Miguel Ilitch and it's amazing, Miguel, the life you're living right now, you went through a transformation. You know, you, you've been very blessed to have the right kind of people come along in your life and give you the tough talking to, don't you think? Yeah, very blessed from the time, you know, your sisters, you know, and gave you the, the wake up call and girlfriends and Willie, you know, and so sometimes the key people in your life are not mentors who come in with a great wisdom. There's sometimes the key people, difference makers in your life are people who give you a slap up the side of the head and they give you a dose of reality therapy, but not in a mean way. It's kind of like, come on, you're better than this. Shape up. You know, what are you doing? And you know, no, this is not okay, you know, and so then it's up to you to respond. You know, you can be stubborn and, you know, lock into what, what you're doing and not respond. But you responded the right kind of way. You have looked for. And another thing is their mentor. You've had mentors from all the books and audio cassettes and tapes like that. And you've proven that it's great when you have a Willie Narajo in your life. Million dollar earners in your life, that's great. You have a personal friendship with, but you don't have to hold back because you don't know any of those kind of people. Right? You can go out with the YouTube, with YouTube, with the books, the audios, this, that and the other. It's better than it's ever been in terms of access. Plus, on YouTube, you can get in the interviews with the famous people, I mean, Elon Musk, Warren Buffett, and people are asking them questions. And if you're really interested in anything, you can get to the bottom of it. And you can actually see them talking, explaining, and you can make up your own mind about whether or not that's impossible. You know, whatever they're doing. And I was, you know that, that works in any business. But you've had the chance to. You force fed yourself with the cream of the crop out there and available in training and inspiration and getting mentally organized for success. But that's opened up other doors for you in your life. Because I imagine your friends now, because of the success you've had, your circle of friends, their average income is probably a lot higher than your circle of friends were in the past. Talk about doors that have opened for you.
For example, look, it's crazy, but let me tell you an example, a little example. Right now I'm living in a building. It's a high end building in Miami. I live in a penthouse. My neighbors. Well, exciting. By my new friend. Neighbor is one of the top players from Colombia, top soccer players from Colombia. How was I gonna meet that guy? There was no way I was gonna meet him. Now he's my friend. He's. Sometimes he comes here, home, we have a drink, and then he goes back upstairs. And he's a famous guy in Colombia that I was never gonna be able to have any relationship with him. The guy on the next building, David Beckham, Marc Anthony. My neighbors in the building that I'm living right now, Dwayne Wade. And this other guy plays basketball. I don't remember his name. His name. They used to live in my building. So. And today, for example, I was buying a Ferrari today.
Really? Is that right?
When I told you, really, Larry, I'm gonna be late. I was coming from the dealership. It took longer to give you the car, preparing the car and everything. So I bought a beautiful car today. And while I was buying the car, the guy next to me was not buying a car, but he was doing service for his car. He's one of the owner, owners of the top Peruvian restaurants in Florida. He's millionaire. I saw him in billboards. I will never have a chance to talk to the guy. If we were in the same dealership where he was with his Ferrari and I was with my buying my Ferrari. And then we started talking, then we became friends. He changed number. He told me, come to the restaurant, let me know when you're coming. So we, we see that my wife and it's. I was like, ah, how am I gonna have those kind of relationships if it's not by increasing my performance, Being a better person, working, having a better kind of life where I can meet with these people and learn from them. It's not only about the relationship it's about their thinking, how they think, how these people get to live the life that they're living. I've been able to do that because I changed the way that I was thinking and I changed the people that I was surrounded with. You know that my friends before used to tell me that what you're doing doesn't work. You should get a real job. I said, miguel, why don't you get a real job? I told him, this is a real job. Say, no, no, no, no, no. Something where you make $50,000 a year, like everybody, you get paid on the 1500 and the 30. And I said, I don't want that. I want $50,000 a month. And they were like, oh, yeah, right. $50,000 a month. You're a dreamer. They told me that before. Now people ask me, so they all now coming to you to work with you? No, they don't. They don't even come into me. But because both pride, I don't know, ego, but they say, you shut my mouth. Wow, that's amazing. So the only thing that said, but now my new friends are people like willing around. My best friend is willing around. He's a millionaire. And I travel the world with this guy, his wife with Lorena, and even that being next to him challenged me to work more, to get better, to always be a good person. That's the things that I want so I can keep going up. Because the winning position is not a one time deal. It's a thing that you have to go for it every day and you have to earn it every day. Because what happens is sometimes we get to do something, we win something, and then we're like, okay, that's it. I'm going to relax now because I'm a success. No, we are not a success. So you get to a point, you're not a success. You have to keep working for that. And it's not only the money. Because for example, right now I don't worry about the money. Right. Thank God, I don't have to worry about the money right now. I want to keep feeling what I feel when I win. I want to continue being significant for the people around me, for my team, for my agents, for my brokers. So in order to do that, I have to keep my game up. One thing that I learned, Larry, sorry. That I. If I take long on this answer, there is a book called the Slight Edge.
Yeah.
In this book I learned that most people do something big or they attend or they go hard, like focus in their life one time and then they fail, right? They come. They call, they come crumbling from that. So since I learned that, I decided I'm not going to be one of those. I'm going to continue being a person that is always consistent. Consistent?
Yeah.
I don't have to be in the field like a new agent, but I'm consistent. And I'm showing up to my office every day, guiding people. And now one thing that I learned from you is that I am the. The tormentor. Not only the mentor, but the tormentor. How am I the tormentor? I am the person. I tell them, look, we have people here that are very good at insurance. You can learn from them. We have people that are geniuses at investments, you can learn from them. Geniuses at mortgages, you can learn from them. And I'm the genius here at making money. And I'm gonna teach you how to make money. So I go every day.
Every day.
I go on everybody. How's your income? How's your income today? Do you get paid today? Because we get paid every day. So I asked him, do you get paid today? Oh, no, no, that's not an answer. Do you get paid today? And they asked me, why didn't you ask me? How am I going? How am I doing today? I said, because if I ask you if you got paid today and you got paid, I know that you're okay, you're fine, you're happy. If you don't get paid today, you're frustrated, you're. You're sad, you're not in your five senses today. So it happened. What the result of that is that everybody's income went up. You know why they went up? Because they're now focused on getting paid every day. So working every day, because they know that tomorrow morning I'm gonna be asking them, do you get paid today? Do you get paid today? Do you get paid today? They went from making an abroading 4,000 to now making 10,000 in a month just by paying attention.
You told me before we got started, you were telling me that you had picked that up early on when we had met years ago and used that every day. But that was, you know, that. I don't know where that came from for me, but I noticed when I would see people in the office, you know, when you have a lot of people going and coming all the time, you don't get a chance to sit down and have a cup of coffee. And, you know, you don't have 30 minutes with everyone in the office. You know, you see him in the hallway how you doing this, that and the other. What's going. And once it came where I went into lockdown mode and I said, okay, it's time to move this thing way back in 1980. And I said, okay, I'm ready to change and we're going to go for the moon, you know, we're going to go for the moon. And I said, we're going in. Basically. I got accused of being soft about numbers and everything. And I thought that was good because, like Larry, you're not money motivated. And I thought I was beaming with pride. Yes, I'm not money motivated. Pat me on the back. I'm here to help people. Aren't I wonderful? And he said, no, basically. He didn't say stupid. It was basically like, no, stupid. You're a businessman. You're supposed to make money. You're supposed to be training people to make money. That's why they come to work with you to make money. And when you don't make money and you're. You kind of afraid to be specific about that, you teach them to be sloppy. You teach them to get away with excuses and not, you know, you're basically training them on how to fail. And people are going to fail. They can fail without you. And the only reason for me to be there, the only reason for you to be there is to help people succeed. So I made up my mind that I came back from that meeting that was in end of April. I'd been making three to four thousand dollars a month. I came back from that meeting and I made three changes. One of them was that I won't go through all of them. One of them was, I said, we're going. It was three changes related to going into the numbers business. It's like we're going into the numbers business. You know, we're people business, we help people, but we're going to go into numbers. And so the company used to put out a report based off number of sales and this, that and the other and recruits and whatever. I said, that's like the odometer reading. And I want you to give me your numbers exactly the way the company puts it out on their scoreboard, you know, way back then. And we do it different now, but you got to find out how you keep score. And so I trained him. I said, when I see you in the hallway, if you ever see me from now on, I don't want to hear, hi, I don't want to hear how are you? I don't want you to ask how I am. Expect Me to ask how you are. If you're in the office, I assume you're doing fine. What I want to hear out of your mouth is your numbers. That's all I want to hear. Because if you're numb, if I know your numbers, I know how you're doing, you know, and if you give me your numbers and your numbers stink, I, I don't want to hear that you're fine, you know, you don't deserve to be fine. You got to be miserable if your numbers are miserable. And so that's what I want out of you. And so, you know, it was a little cold blooded, but we went skyrocketing growth and you same thing. Because when people focus, they can get things done. Shockingly the most, the most. The person who sees the most incompetent can become, you know, overnight star type thing. And you know this. I interviewed this lady who started her own therapy business recently, a few months ago, and she said this whole thing, she got into therapy, she said, what's this thing about therapy? You go in there and they say, you know, it's going to take two or three years for us to, you're going to have to commit to this thing and we can change how you think and everything over two or three years. And she said, who's got two or three years to go through therapy? So she came over. The thing is like you repeat after me right now, you are worth it, you are valid. Anybody's told you you're negative, get that out of your head, that's not true. And said, let's just change right now. And so that's what you can do. You can change your life if you go like right now you're going into the numbers business. So we did that. And my income, which this might have been what got your attention, I told you my income went from three to $4,000 a month for four years leading up to that it went to 6,000 the next month it went to 11,000 the month after that it went to 22,000 the month after that. And has only three times ever did it ever go under 20,000. But basically it kept skyrocketing for the next 17 years of growth. And see, that's the payoff for keeping your mind because it can go the other way too. If you stop asking about it, pretty soon they're going to stop focusing on it. But it was work. It takes a while to get everybody on it and everybody say, you know, because they would tell me the numbers in a bass ackwards way. Or, you know, they stutter and stammer. And I said, no, no, no, no, no. You know, I became like a drill sergeant. You know, it's like, get your act together. When I say. When I say, what are your numbers? I'm saying, how are you? You know, so, what are your numbers? What are your numbers? What are your numbers? And that way, even when they were away from me, they knew eventually they would see me. And I was going to say, what are your numbers? And so it changed everything. And we recruited 25,000 people in the next three years.
Wow.
From that.
Yep.
Years. That's a lot of people.
Yep. Three and a. Three. Three years and three months.
Well, I became, you know, where I left. You don't remember when you taught me that, Right. Do you?
No.
You call me that because of the relationship that you get by growing and doing your stuff. You invited us to Mar a Lago. The club.
Yeah. Okay.
The club where the president. The president goes.
Right.
You were there, and we sat on the beach and you started talking about what you were doing when you have. When you were at the office. So I was like, wow, I like that. I like to do that. Since that moment. At that moment, I was making half a million dollars. Since that moment that you said that, I started doing it and doing it and doing it, and I'm doing it and I'm doing. And my income went up and up. Not only my income, everybody's income in the office went up, Went up. And now they know, you know, things that I realized after asking people, they got paid or not, they didn't even know how to check if they have been paid.
Really.
I was like, then you're not paying attention to money because you don't know how to check it. You're not paying attention to money.
No.
I asked them every day, do you get paid today? Oh, yes. You know what happened? I did one time because I always ask, raise your hand. You got paid today. So on a. It was a Monday, but it was holiday. Yeah, we don't get paid on holidays.
Right.
And I asked, raise your hand. You all got paid today. And like seven people raised the hand. And I said, you're lying to me and you're lying to yourself. They're like, what happened? You didn't get paid today because nobody got paid today. So you're lying. They were so embarrassed. But everybody else realize, right, that you're not supposed to lie. Why are you lying to yourself?
Right?
They're not lying to me. They're lying to themselves. So now they're very careful when I ask, do you get paid today? Yes, Coach. How much? But it helps, it help people to be focused on it.
And the whole idea is to be the difference maker in their life. The whole thing is, you know, if the whole don't be a leader unless you're going to get results. You know, it's just like quit wasting everybody's time. You know, if, you know, if you're not going to help them improve, get focused, grow up and have bigger success and make and you're going to let them wander around, get out of the off, you know, get, get out of that position, turn them over to somebody else. You know, if you enjoyed what you've.
