This YouTube episode (Episode #658) features Sief Khafagi (Co-Founder and CEO of Techvestor) speaking about communication strategies for interviews and podcasts. He emphasizes being authentic, reading and 'matching' the interviewer’s energy (sometimes mirroring it, other times moderating or countering it) so the conversation and listener experience align with your brand.
And one of the first things I tell people is absolutely be yourself, be authentic. Your energy matters with who you're talking to and understand the concept of matching. And when I talk about matching, I talk about when I walk into a room and I see who my interviewer is. Yeah, at times you need to match energy, and at times you need to also be opposite of their energy back. You probably face this every day when you're doing a podcast. If someone in front of you is incredibly energetic, that's both good and bad, you have to somehow taper it to where you might not be able to be as energetic as they are, because then it's going to throw off the tone and complexity and conversation of your podcast to where it's not going to envision what you want for your brand. Now, on the opposite end, if they're incredibly unenergetic, you might have to bring up more energy out of yourself to, in fact, keep on par with the type of experience you want your listeners to have.
