From 0 To 9000 Recruits In 3 Years

This content was created by Larry Weidel. This content was uploaded by Larry Weidel. This is a YouTube video titled "From 0 To 9000 Recruits In 3 Years" created in April 2015. It features a single speaker sharing a detailed personal story about their journey in financial services starting in 1975, focusing on the growth of their recruiting team and the development of successful recruiting strategies over several years. The speaker discusses challenges, milestones, and the compounding effect of recruitment efforts, providing motivational insights and offering additional resources for viewers interested in replicating this success.
Foreign. I'd like to share a quick story about the growth of our team and of course, that turned into, of course, income to give you some hope, but also show you where the 23 recruiting rules came from over the years and why they have been so successful and how they've been proven. Because when I started here in 1975 in the financial services business, we primarily in sales. So you weren't really trying to go. So whenever you're in sales, you're an up and down. But in 77, company went independent and started recruiting. Recruiting and training. And it takes. Anytime you start anything new, it takes you a while to get good at it. In 1979, I moved up to North Carolina and said, you know, I want to expand. I want to do something big. I don't want to be limited. We were down in Atlanta, everybody was in Atlanta. And it's important to point out that at this point in my career, as far as income, there really was none. Zero. I've got the income of being on food stamps, unemployment. Why was I on food stamps and unemployment? Because I graduated from Georgia Tech in 71, went in the construction business. Career was taking off, but the oil embargo hit. There was nobody buying houses because they couldn't get mortgages. So I got laid off. All of a sudden my income, which was going up, up, up, very exciting, went down to nothing. So I found myself with my wife that didn't work outside the home and two boys on food stamps, wondering, what am I going to do with the rest of my life? So I said, well, I'm going to get in financial services that's more stable, but you're on commission, so you got to be able to produce. That created a problem. But in 79, moved to North Carolina, got a few ideas in my head, took a year or two, and bam. Now I'm looking back, we're up to 2015 and. And I look back and I've been paid $65 million from food stamps to 65 million paid so far in the last five years. Everything's still strong. Where did that come from? Well, it's 79, 80, 81, 82. We had really an explosive growth, and it started because of some things we put in place. The question I want to point out here, I just want to show you what happened during this period. What happened, this laid the foundation for everything that came after, put the fundamentals in place. This is what happens when you're in the right industry in the right country, right opportunity. So when I went up there Here I was, I was up here, only the lonely, all by myself. Didn't know anybody. So when I moved up there, didn't know anybody, didn't have a friend, started making friends, didn't have any big reserve of money. But I had a dream and, and I had to be insane because there was no way. Financials like you can't prove that. You know, you could prove that a butterfly can't fly or a plane can't fly, logically, but they do anyway. Well, you could prove that. Financially I didn't, I wasn't able to make this happen, but I did. And so the first year is just grunt work. It's grinding it out, doing most of it myself, eventually duplicating, getting a few guys on board. But the main thing was by the end of the year we'd done a lot of experimenting with lot of copying other successful organizations. We put a foundation in place. So that year two we really exploded. It was still me, but the core group started really to explode the next year. It's just amazing what can happen in 12 short months. The following 12 short months, this is what happened. And people, it was just going in every direction and where this came from. What you're looking at is the most popular handout in our business for the last 40 something years because it just shows what can happen. And by the way, I wasn't the only one, but this is mine, this is the one I knew about. So let's go here. And the first year in 79, when I just got to North Carolina, I did the floundering. This is the recruit total. Three a month. Six. Six months. Seven. Seven. And then you have a slump. Four month, you know, back down to none, up and down, up and down, up and down. But what happens is, you know, we had a total, I think 56 for the first year. The goal was 200. The main things we learned a lot of lessons. We got ourselves wrapped around the four point game plan to explode. We really put recruiting as our main emphasis. Race for outlets made sales a byproduct of recruiting and training. You know, it was slow getting started. 7, 13, 13, not that dramatic. Even in 90 days. 18, I had a goal of going for 1800 recruits had a cut. You know, just a couple of full timers. With me, everybody thought we were insane. You know, what we were focusing on during all this time was duplication. And if you duplicate yourself like every month you get two recruits and then the second month you don't do any more recruit, you help them get two recruits. Well, now you're up to four. You know, start with one, you get two, you, even if you don't get any more recruits, you just help them get two each. Now you're at four. All that happens is everybody focuses on helping each of those four get two. Now you're at eight. Seems incredibly slow. That was what was happening to me right in here. I was wondering if I was on the right track. But when you stay with this thing, you get into some exponential. You get the compounding that this is how money compounds. But you get it happening in your organization with people. If you get a track to follow and you stay with it. And so the 16, you do the same thing with the 16 that you did with the first recruit you had up here first month, help them get two. Well, now you're up to 32. If you do that by the 12th month, you're recruiting 4,000 people. In your 12th month. It never works out exactly like that. However, if it works out a fraction of that, you have changed your life. So here's where that led to, just focusing on that. Here's what happened. See, the first year was up and down, floundering. Have you ever floundered in your career? But we, we knew this is where we wanted to go. You know, we wanted to go. We had that dream and we were looking for ways to figure out how to get there. We got our plan. It took a while, you know, this first, whole first year of floundering around to get going, but pretty soon it kicked in. In the second year, slow start. But in the second year in, I remember in July, we had, this is cumulative Numbers, we had 147 recruits in the month of July, which usually can't do anything. 235 in September, 300 on, we went through the year. As a result, in this year two, in 1980, we had the 1782 recruits. We kept it going. We just stayed on the same game. When you get something to work, folks stay with it. And it's easy to get sidetracked. You got to be tough and not allow yourself to get diverted. But if you stay on track here, here's what can happen. In the second year, we had 7,000. And what that turned into is just under 9,000 recruits in year three. And as a result, the fourth year, we recruited 15,000. That turned into 24,000 recruits in four years. Now, if this didn't work or this was a house of cards, you know, you got to recruit quantity to get quality. You got to have a, you know, a Real company, a real stability to yourself, to stay with it, to keep people with you. But when you do, you can keep on compounding. And that's what's happened on that first graph on the front page that we looked at. This is how we were able to take the fumbling, stumbling start that everybody goes through. But then once we got into compounding mode, we were able to make magic happen. And the fun thing is we did that with no technology, no cell phones, we really didn't even have faxes, no computers, no Internet, no brochures for the longest time. We didn't even have our own processing center as a company. None of the technology you have today. So when you think it's your opportunity and what you can do, if you get a game plan you believe in, you get a company that will support you, you get something that people want. If you focus on recruiting, training and compounding, you can have unlimited growth. And the 23 fast track recruiting rules emerged from this process. Ideas are a dime a dozen. Use those things to build your business and you can go to widelonwinning.com and get your copy of the 23 recruiting rules or I also have copies on our Widel Academy, the YouTubes here and the four point game plans that we used to make this happen. We've got videos on that. So if you're interested, if you like this, want some fresh ideas, take a, take a look at it. But that's my story folks. It happened, it can happen to you. If you have questions on this, you want follow up, just send them in to me and I'll try and get as quick as possible a chance to answer you back. One more thing for those of y' all who are interested how this went step to step, you know, you, you have to figure things out as you go. For those of you all are interested in the backstory on this thing, I going to do a follow up video, basically a behind the scenes and hit some of the highlights. Here's for an example, before I moved to North Carolina, here's where I started. I was a downline manager and that's where I was like recruiting three people a month, you know, making a minimum amount of 14 sales a month, about a sale every other day, limping along, three or four thousand dollars a month income. That's where I started when I left Atlanta. If you look at it a few couple of years later, this is just a peek by June 1991 and again we had promoted some people out. Look at the numbers, a typical kind of month. We were up again. Remember three recruits back in Atlanta and the home base at the Battle Star. But not only they moved. I'm up there by myself when I started. But now we had mushroomed up to where our organization, 383 recruits and 630 sales a month. And that's just a typical kind of month. In fact, this was still in my first year, being promoted up to regional vice president. It just shows how far we went in those two or three years. And I've got more a backstory on that I'll do in a follow up video. If you want a more background, you want the stories, things we had to figure out along the way, that'll be in that video. Otherwise, just go start your own. Just focus on building your own right now. Do it. Big Sam.
