New Opportunities That Open Up to You Once You Become Successful with Guy Shashaty

I'm here with Guy Shashetti, and we're talking about what kind of doors open for you when you have success. You know, you stand up to the challenge. You get past the survival stage. You get up there where you get the successful things that you wanted for yourself and your family and community and your church and your kids and your neighbors, and all the good things are happening. But then things come. You know, you could probably predicted a lot of those things, but then things fall out of the sky that you couldn't anticipate. And these are things, if you decide to do them, they appeal to you, can enrich your life in ways beyond your wildest dreams. And so, Guy, thanks for hanging in there.

Yeah, I'd love to. In order for people to understand the great things that are available to you, I'm going to take you back. I'm in high school, and I get invited by. I'm a 10th grader. Okay, 10th grader in high school. And there was a senior running back who I looked up to. His name was Johnny Thomas. And Johnny came up to me and he said, guy, we have this group that meets on Tuesday nights, and we just talk about all the things that athletes go through and how they struggle through it. And I thought, man, that'd be great. And he goes, and, you know, and it's from a Christian perspective, and I think you'd be great. It's called the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. And in my mind, I'm like, oh, I'll be there. You know what I mean? And I was very, very confident, cocky, arrogant. Call me what you want at the time. And I went to this Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting for the next six or eight weeks, and it was transforming. It was like, man, this is all stuff I knew. I grew up hearing these stories. And then I was invited that summer to a camp in Black Mountain, North Carolina. And the only reason I went is because they told me that there were going to be professional athletes there sharing how to get better at football. And I literally thought, man, I can't wait to get there and show these guys how good I am. It gives you an idea how I was thinking and then I get there and all these college athletes, all these professional athletes are there and they're teaching us how to play football. And I realized pretty quickly that I was nowhere near as good as I thought I was. But throughout the week they had these meetings and these guys would get up and talk about over and over again how they got to be successful and talk about how their success brought everything to them. All the cars, all the, all the toys you could think of, women, all that kind of stuff. And to a person, they all talked about how they still had an emptiness inside. And it really didn't fill the gap for what they thought it was going to do until they came to surrender their life to Jesus Christ. And I'm hearing this all week and I'm thinking, I believe that that's true, all that kind of stuff. And at the end of the week, on a Friday, the counselor who was above my group of guys said to me, guy, it sounds like you know a lot about this stuff. And I said, yeah, I've been hearing it my whole life. I've been going to church at the Catholic church my whole life. I know all these stories. He goes, it sounds like you have head knowledge, but you don't have a lot of heart knowledge. Of course, I didn't know what that meant at the time, but he goes, it just means that you, you know, in your, in your mind, you know all this. But do you know this in your heart? Have you ever surrendered your life? And I'm like, surrendered my life? What does that even mean? Anyway, he went through it, showed me in the Bible what it means. And that day I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior. I'm a 10th grader in high school. It's been 43 year journey now, Larry, that I've been on. And when we started having success, I realized that if you want to have influence over other people, what it takes is influence. In other words, if you want to be, you know, have other people listen to your point of view, then you have to have influence. And the way you gain influence is you do something special with your life. They don't ask the poorest man in a city how to solve the city's problems. They go to successful people for that. And they do that in every area of life. People who've gone out and done something special with their life. So because of that, we've had a tremendous amount of influence and in ministry, because I've been in ministry my entire life, but in the last 11 years or so, I've been heading up the state of Florida Band of Brothers boot camps. And it's a group of men that come together for a four day weekend and we help them get unstuck. Most men are stuck. Most men in our society are stuck. They don't know why they're stuck. And we help them get unstuck through a series of boot camps just transforms their life, helps them realize what's going on. And then they come back and they begin the process of winning again. And most of these guys are broken. In fact, every, every person in the world is broken at some level. And if they weren't, they wouldn't need a savior, right? They'd have it all together. So what happens is we, we bring these men together and then we found out that, you know, waiting for the next year for these guys to return, that a lot of tough stuff was happening. Because I believe, and this is my belief, that there's an enemy out there trying to steal and to kill and to destroy. And he roams around like a roaring lion seeking who he would devour. And so because of my belief in that and seeing it over and over and over again in people's lives, we said we need to touch these guys a little more often. So we started Rally points, which is a. More of a. Another meeting. But it's like midway through the years, we see guys every six months. And then guys would still get taken out, you know, and they'd be, they'd be struggling. And a lot of them were trying to find churches. Unfortunately, Larry, when you're trying to find a chur that has a vibrant men's ministry, very few exist. And by vibrant, I mean a ministry that's transparent to men, honest, open, and just really helps them navigate life. It's not there in the church world. And because of that, we've created that ourselves. So we have squads that we do now every week where a small group of men will come together and help navigate through the issues of life. And we'll bring these guys together and a guy will come in and he's having trouble in his marriage, or he's having trouble with his kids right now, or he's having trouble, you know, with his business or his finances, or his kids are struggling with drugs or whatever, and we'll come together and he'll have other men around him who probably navigated a similar experience or the same one, and he'll give them insight to how to handle that. And then we rain down heaven. I call it rain down heaven. We'll just pray with the guy and As a result of that, transformation happens. And so men have this really cool move they do all the time. It's called isolation, right? Men like to get out on their own, and they want to just escape from the world. So they isolate, and the enemy goes, gotcha. And he just takes you as soon as you isolate and he begins to get all these horrible thoughts in your head. And so many bad things are happening in our church and in our world because men have stepped aside and not led. Okay? They don't lead like they're supposed to. They don't protect, they don't provide like they're supposed to. And as a result of that, we have a world that's in chaos in many ways. So our goal at the Band of Brothers is to change that. So we do that through a lot of different ways, not just squads, but we have a thing called Operation Timothy, which is a discipleship program. We have Conquer series, which helps men overcome any kind of sexual addiction. We have love and respect to help men in their. In their marriages. We do a thing called Forgiving Forward, which is how to learning how to forgive. Most men are stuck in their unforgiveness and their hatred and their poison that they have. They drink poison hoping somebody else will die. It's really interesting.

Because I really believe if you get the man, you get the family. If you don't get the man, you're not going to get the family. Statistics show it. You know, they talk about the war on women. The truth is, if you look at the statistics, there's like a war on men. And we're trying to fight that war and help men understand what it means to be a, quote, real man, and what that looks like, how to live that out in their life. And then once they figure that out, success in other areas just naturally comes. And our goal is that everybody would be living out the will of God in their life. Whatever that is that God wants you to do, that you go do it, and you do it with everything that's in you. You live your life passionately and focus. And I have a lot of my friends who are not in business. I have friends of mine that stayed in coaching and are very, very, very successful. And they're. And we're on the same page every time we get together. It doesn't have to be in business, but they're very influential as a result. And I've got friends like that. And then I have other, well, acquaintances of mine. I don't really hang with them much anymore. These are the guys that kind of threw the towel in on life and never really said, I am going to go be all that I was created to be. And they just kind of settled. And as a result of that settling, they are empty. And my prayer for everybody who is listening right now is you will never settle. To be set out there and know that there is more for you and you didn't do what was necessary to go do it, that you would just fight through it, get the right people around you, the right support system, read those books, listen to those tapes. There are successful people more than willing to help you. That's why this podcast exists, is to help people take it to the next level. And, Larry, thank you for having me today.

Yeah. You know, the thing is, Guy, there will be people listening that'll say, you know, I resent them bringing this up, but the thing is, you need to get your spiritual life organized, folks. You can go through life and nobody brings this up. Or what they bring up is some kind of weird, voodoo, mystical, Far Eastern, you know, you know, psychedelic, hallucinating, New Age. That's not spiritual life. Is God in you. You know, and if you don't have. If you feel empty inside, it's because you're empty inside. And you need to get that void filled because you don't want to be. I mean, there's stories like this that never end. Of the Wall street wizard with a beautiful apartment on the east side and the two kids that grew up in the right kindergarten and private schools and the beautiful wife, and they just got back from a ski vacation in Vail or a summer vacation to Tahiti, and they got the perfect life. And he goes to work on Monday morning after the vacation and checks himself into a hotel and jumps out the 34th street window of the room on the Drake Hotel. You know, out of the Drake Hotel, the people are doing crazy things because they find out, you know, material things are great, but in context, it's kind of like recreation. Guy Recreation is great if you have, you know, a regular thing where you're actually working and producing things, and then you take a break and you go take a vacation and do recreation. But when you do recreate, look at all the guys down at the golf clubs and that that are playing golf every day. They're sick of it. You know, the same four guys go out and play golf every day, and then they play cards and they have to. Sick of it. And I remember. Well, I won't get into all these stories, but the deal is it's important. This is not a debate. We're not in an argument. If you're not interested in this stuff, great, Unbelievable. Go live your life. But if you're looking for something, you feel like I'm missing something, you know, it's like until you get this dealt with, nothing else matters, you know, it's just not going to. You know, if you have a problem with one of your children and you do great things with all the other children, that's not going to fix that other child, you know, and then if you have a health issue.

You know.

You'Ve got a bad. Whatever it is, you know, doing aerobic exercise and lifting weights and everything, that's not going to address that particular pituitary issue or whatever it is, gallbladder or whatever. And so you got to address the need. And this is something that must be addressed in your life for you to be fulfilled and satisfied and have the impact that you want to have. And in that process, you're going to go through a lot of tough times. Everybody does. Everybody does, regardless. In fact, there's people that go through significantly worse things than you're currently experiencing, and they fight through and they make it anyway. So why not you? You can fight through. You can do what you got to do. You just need to make sure you surround yourself with the kind of people that are willing to do that.
