Larry Weidel explains how a sales strategy grew revenue from $58M to $362M in two years. He shares how he taught himself telecommunications engineering to become a top sales rep in his first year, then scaled that approach across a team.
When we're an entrepreneur, we have to make our own. And then selling, you have to make your own. But you still have a support system that you don't have necessarily when you're on your own. Right. In a corporate environment. In selling, you have human resources departments, you have operations, so you don't have to hire all these people. Right, right. So I went into that, and frankly, I went into the interview and they liked, you know, who I was, but frankly, I didn't know what they were selling. I mean, I sort of, like, read up on it to converse enough, and then they offered me the job on the spot. And when I did, I was like, well, I gotta learn what we're doing here. We're selling digital circuits of certain types. So, yeah, I. I ordered three telecommunications engineering books and overnighted them to myself and read them over a weekend. But that was probably one of the best things I ever did because I learned to think like a sales engineer as well as, you know, all the technical people in the companies that I was now selling to. Within my first year, I became the number one rep in the company.
