Sales - Everybodys A Salesman

Larry Weidel argues that everyone sells, whether they're parenting, teaching, coaching, or doing business. Sales isn't a dirty word, it's just persuasion and communication. Learn the basic principles to get better at convincing people in any part of your life.
Lets talk about sales. You know, I was always afraid of sales. Sounded like such a foreign subject. But it's not something you can hide from in life because sooner or later you realize everybody is a salesman. Everybody. And unless you can put everybody you know on a salary where you force them to obey or you're going to fire them and even that doesn't work, everybody's a salesman. And you think about, and this is whether you know about it or not, whether you accept it, whether you know or not, as you get through life, Getting through life is working with people. And if you don't have something that you can think of as, here's a way of thinking of it. And this is pretty much an intro. You can think of this as an introductory video on basic sales fundamentals. But these are basic skills for navigating life. And you've got some. As you get through life, the more of these you have, the more you understand how it works, the easier it is for you to get through life and not stay frustrated. We're not going to get into the details here, but if you are a parent and you have kids, you're selling because when the kids start very young, they don't understand authority yet. And if you're going to get them done, you have to sell them on it, you have to trick them on it, you have to talk them in, you have to get inside their mind. You can't just force them to do things. And believe it or not, you're selling them on doing the right things. Then the more you have that ability to do that, the more you're going to get the results you want. Of course, teachers, same thing. Occasionally in a crisis or situation, a teacher can yell at the kids, you know, it's a fire, get out, get out. You know, but, or if they're fighting, stop and make them behave. But you can't go through the whole day, every day yelling at the kids, getting them to do their homework, doing things in the right sequence, getting along with each other. You need, you're going to have to, you know, they sell, you're going to have to sell them, show them why it's in their best interest. And of course coaches, coaches are always trying to get the people they're coaching to go above and beyond. They're trying to get them to do things they would never do on their own. And they're not going to do that just because they have a coach yelling at them all the time. They got to see why it benefits them. So coaches, as they push, they prod they are selling people on really pushing themselves. A coach can push you so far, but a coach combined with you understanding why the purpose of it, it'll allow the coach to push you further than they'd be able to do if you're resisting them. And certainly a lot farther than you'd ever be able to push yourself on your own. Also you have politicians who's gonna, you know, who's gonna win almost every political race. The most likable person. Think about it. It's almost always you running for office. Make sure you're the most likable person. And you don't boss people around. You have to, you know, you're selling yourself. You want people to feel comfortable. So you have to, you know, sales wins there and also spiritual leaders. You're not always going to get the response you want by just doing the pronouncements and reading the ten commandments and threatening hellfire and damnation. It's a matter of letting people see the benefit for them for cooperating. And you get if you know how to sell. Sell causes people to want to cooperate. You get more cooperating rather than versus resisting when they understand why it's in their best interest and they understand you're not trying to bully your way into their life and force them to do things just for some reason. But it's going to pay off for them. So you've got to be able to get them to sell to see that. Also military, of course you have rank. You can throw them in the brig. You can throw them, you can dishonorable discharge, you can throw them out if they don't obey. But you still the best generals are inspiring. They're motivating rather than bossing. And a lot of that is selling them on being the best. Selling them, you know, to make the sacrifice. And even in business, the best people in business will tell you that the age of bossing people around just to keep, you know, just because they get a job that's over. Even managers in business are selling their people on doing things. They're doing a whole lot more selling their team on doing the right stuff than bossing because you get a bigger, more powerful, more productive result now. So no matter what side of life you're in, see everybody, you know, you look at this thing, everybody, we can go through the whole list but everybody at all stages of life is going to be involved in sales and what that's why we have this section inside the winners Academy to put the basics. You don't have to be a high pressure super sophisticated salesperson. But you just have to know the basics of interpersonal reactions and relationships and getting how to communicate ideas so that people will see why it's in their best interest to cooperate with you rather than to fight you. And we'll get into things like how when I started into sales, what confused me, I thought that I would have rather, you know, sales was like when I thought sails. It was just like there was no bigger mystery. I always thought that I could have learned astrophysics in Russian, which I didn't speak, easier than I could learn how to sail because it just seemed like there was a mystery, it was a magic trick involved. But would you find that you can remove the mystery? It's a step by step thing. And the mystery is, how do you get someone who is here, they're at this point, they're doing this, they have this job, they have this opinion, they have this product and they're just as happy as they can be right here. But they really don't know why it would be in their best interest to be over here at point B. Because right now they think they've got the world by the tail. They think this is the greatest thing in life. They don't know how to get over to point B. This is what I didn't understand. This was just like how, how, how they're all happy. How can you get them to consider something else? And then much less, how can I get them to consider me as the best person with the best idea or the best product or the best solution for getting them into this superior spot product or position or viewpoint in their life? How does that all happen? Well, that was a great mystery for me and we're going to answer that for you also. Which button do you push? Do you push the logic button? Why doesn't logic work? And what role does emotion seems like people, they do these things back out of motion. Well, how can you capture that emotion and get them to make the right decision? We're going to take all of the guesswork out and we're going to show you how this works. It's very, very simple. And it's nothing like Russian astrophysics. It's very simple. And actually you're already doing a lot of it already in your life. And so that's an introduction to our series on fast start. You know how to get a fast start quickly. Get yourself equipped to have the basics of sales under your belt and to feel confident about it where you understand how it works and you can use it to your advantage.
