Success Secrets: Surround Yourself With Top Performers

Larry Weidel argues that you become like the people around you. He cites the 80/20 rule: 20% of people produce 80% of results. Spend time with top performers or risk being pulled down by the majority.
You know, the, you know the phenomena about when you're, you travel, you're up north, you're in the Bronx, you start, you stay there long enough, you got some friends from the Bronx, you start picking up the Bronx accent. You go to England, if you're there long enough and you have enough, you're talking with English people. All of a sudden you get, you know, they accuse Madonna. All of a sudden you're acting like you got an English accent. You know, who you kidding? But it's. It's kind of unavoidable. The people around you, you pick up things from them. You pick up the style, the feel, the reaction. And a lot of us don't realize how we've been influenced by losers. You know, the thing is, the world goes to the people who can make things happen in all walks of life. There's 20% of the people who make 80% of the things happen. Unfortunately, the 20 percenters spend their time around the 80 percenters. And if you're going to do great things, you've got to be aware of the fact that most people are not like you. Most people are not like me and you. You got to have it very clear. I'm a 20 percenter who would love to prove I'm good enough to be a 1 percenter and so on. The way to do that is you gravitate towards 1 percenters and you gravitate away from the 80 percenters. Nothing wrong with the 80 percenters. We love them, we need them. Might be another way, you know, a side of life, there's 20 percenters or 1%, but most of the time we operate at whatever business, whatever club, whatever sports team we're in, whatever charity, whatever church. Most people are really not that into it. Now, it's not to say they're not into something else, but right there, they're basically going through the motions. But you need them. You know, they, they provide a function, but on the other hand, don't let them influence you. You keep your eye and your ears geared into the people that are at the 1% and above. If that's where you want to be, be sure who you are. A 20 percenter on your way, going through a transition to the 1 percenter. And that's the reason we created the day hitter community. And you can find out about that if you're interested. See ya.
