The 1 Percent Rule - How Small Changes Lead to Massive Success

Larry Weidel explains how improving just 1% daily compounds into major gains over time. He contrasts perfectionism with incremental progress, uses a pilot-one-degree-off metaphor to show how tiny shifts accumulate, and argues consistency beats perfection.
Do you ever wonder how people get into a winning groove? Do you hear the winning groove thing in the zone? Hear about being in the zone, and you wonder, how do I get there? Well, the goal isn't perfection. Nobody's 100% positive, 100% disciplined, 100% on track all the time. The secret is to stack the odds in your favor. Small improvements, small adjustments every single day. See, just 1% more effort, 1%, one more positive choice, one more step in the right direction makes all the difference in the world over time. So you cut off negativity faster, you end the draining conversations sooner, you spend more time in the right environment. Success isn't guaranteed, but you can tilt the game in your favor. Art Williams told me one time, he said, the idea in managing yourself is to work your activity, get your activity, your schedule organized to the point to where instinctively inside yourself, you're doing enough of the right kinds of things on a daily basis. You just have a sense, I'm doing enough of the right kind of things on a daily basis to where I'm going to move forward, I'm going to progress, I'm going to grow. And so what can you do? You can improve by 1%. Imagine a pilot leaving New York for London, but they're just one degree off. A small mistake, right? But over a thousand miles, they don't land in London. They end up in Sicily or someplace. Small changes over time create massive shifts in direction. You don't need a life overhaul, because who of us can do that? But you can sharpen yourself little by little like a knife across a grindstone. And so what can you do? Challenge yourself. One less negative thought, one more positive action, one more degree of improvement every day. See, by the end of the year, that 1% daily adds up to a massive difference in your life. Life isn't about being perfect. It's about doing enough of the right things consistently on a daily basis to win.
