The Fewer Moving Parts, the Better

This is a recorded interview on the Million Dollar Mastermind where host Larry Weidel interviews Andrew McConnell (founder & CEO of Rented). McConnell describes his entrepreneurial path from Vacation Futures (originating ~2012) to founding Rented in 2020, explains two core business models he used (an owner-facing auction marketplace and a financed guaranteed-rent product called Rented Capital), and recounts major operational lessons: start with an extreme minimum viable product, prefer the lowest-tech solution that works, build proprietary software only when usability/scale requires it, and simplify continuously ("the fewer moving parts, the better"). He also describes a large scaling crisis when outside managers underperformed against guaranteed rents, the decision to bring operations in-house and build technology, and rapid revenue lifts after that change.
