Now let's get going into this episode of Million Dollar Mastermind. I'm here with Miguel Illage and we're having fun talking about the things you got to go through in your mind to wake yourself up to what you're doing wrong that's keeping you from having success. And Miguel stunt as good a job as anybody at walking through that process. So, Miguel, let's keep going. You ready?
I'm ready.
Okay, let's talk about. We were talking about the price of success is absolutely nothing compared to the payoff. And people that hold back, they think it's just terrible to have to go to a meeting, make appointments, you know, get disciplined, attend meetings, take on responsibility, learn things, get licensed, open a business, take on the nitty gritty that's involved in basically learning the basics of any business and then applying those on a steady basis. And they want to work a little bit, but then they want to back off and relax at the end of the day, you know, they want to. They don't. The idea of just working till the job's done, taking the responsibility, making things happen, moving up fast. It just seems like they're being punished and they don't know that they're killing themselves with their sorriness, basically. And so how did. When did that start? How did this start the light bulb start going for you? Willie had those conversations with you. Your girlfriend at the time had those conversations with you. How did you turn yourself around? How did that. You go through that evolution?
You know that I have always worked out. Always, always I worked out. I used to go to the gym a lot, running. I still run sometimes go to the gym one day and I was rigged. I had the old six pack and everything. And we were in a meeting, in a late meeting at the office, and Willie said, you need discipline in this business. And do you know who's the most disciplined person in this office? And we were always like 20 people, like. And he said, miguel. I was like, really? Me? He said, yeah. To have that body that he has, you need discipline. If we were using that discipline to work, he would be making money. So at the beginning, I was like, wow, he pulled me in a pedestal.
Then he dropped me from the pedestal.
But then something clicked in my mind. I said, he's right. I am disciplined because I'm disciplined in my body, my working out and everything. If I use that discipline for the business, I might be able to do something. Larry, the next day or maybe two days later, I remember going to the gym very early in the morning and I grabbed the weights, the dumbbells, and I was gonna start working out when I was thinking, what am I doing with these dumbbells? I need to be disciplined now. But in my business, I'm already ripped. I have everything that I have in my body. So I put the dumbbells back and I left the gym. That was like around 6:00am, 5:36am from that moment on, I decided that all my workout time was going to be dedicated to the business, to learning, to setting up appointments to be close to him. And then I called him. I said, willie, I have a great idea. I'm going to spend the next day, maybe tomorrow or the next day, the whole day with you, going to appointments to see what you do. And he said, I have a better idea. I'm gonna spend the day with you, the day that you decide to set up appointments. I said, no, no, no, We. I'll go to your appointments. I said, no, no, you're not going to my appointments. You're gonna line up your own appointments and I'll go with you. Oh, God.
Okay.
So I said, okay, that's what I have to do to spend time with him. I started calling people and lining up appointments. Why didn't do it before? I don't know.
You weren't used to doing this and so you had to get. Usually there's a call reluctance. You know, I've had football players say, you know, I can lift a 300 pound weight, but I can't lift the phone up and make a phone call. You know what I'm saying? It's just, I've got this reluctance here. It's just phone calls. People are afraid of rejection. And did you have to. Did you go through that thing? They procrastinate, they put it off. And how did you get yourself over the hump on that?
You know that I used to care about what other people were thinking about me, about their opinions. You know what happened that by reading. Reading helped me a lot. And I started doing work. I was working on my head every morning around 4:15 in the morning. I was waking up to do affirmations and reading and, like, walking and saying the things that I wanted to become. Like, it was like, already. I did that, like, for four months. I started changing the way. The way that I spoke, the way that I address people. I started changing the way that I walk. I don't know, but it worked. It really worked. People say things that. It's like, oh, that's. I don't know. That's a kid's tales. That's not kid sales. I. I did it on me. It worked on me doing affirmations, working on what I was saying. I read a book that I have it somewhere here that is called what to say when you talk to yourself from Sam Hempstead or something like that. I read that book, and I started acting the way. And talking the way that I wanted to be. The thing that happened is I became a new person. And one day I started really thinking that I was able to do this. I was thinking. And I said to myself, and I told Willie, I'm gonna become a broker, even if it cost me my life. That was my decision. I said, this is it. I'm gonna do it. If I die trying on this, I'll die trying. But I'm tired of trying things and not finishing anything and try. Or trying this and trying that and trying that and not going through on anything. I'm gonna go through on this. Because if it's possible for him, it's possible for me. And that I heard in an audio in the morning, I was putting on my shoes to go to work. And the guy from the audio said, if I can do it, you can do it. The only difference between you and I is the time that I have invested in my current activity, right? So I was like, wow, another lightboard.
Boom.
I was like, that's right. Willie's been doing this for 10 years. I just started two months ago, three months ago. And I'm thinking, why do I. Why am I not be able to. To really get the results that he get? And it's because I haven't dedicated the time that he's dedicated to this, Larry. I decided to. All these books are from seven years and this. And look at this. I read this book several times. I use it for training and every. What did you think?
What did you think?
Because it was. I was reading what I was going through, so I knew that I wasn't the only one feeling the things that I was feeling right or having the obstacles or the challenges that I was having.
If you listen if you listen to the audio, he, he picked up my book, Serial Winner. But that's what he's talking about.
Oh yeah, Serial Winner. I bought the book, actually I bought like 40 books. I was thinking I'm gonna give it to my agents and I gave them away. And also I bought the audio because I used to listen it to the car to remind me this, the book, these books like Think Like a Winner. I can give you examples or examples, but that's what changed my thinking. I still do that every day in the morning, early in the morning, I listen to, to audios and as soon as I finish the audio, I send it to my team. 4:30 in the morning, an audio for about 10, 20 minutes. After the audio, I listen to the audiobook that I'm listening, whatever audiobook that I'm listening at the moment, what I'm changing and everything I'm listening. If I go running, I'm listening to an audio. And that gives me, or it reminds me and also gives me an insight on the way that winners think.
Well, what it allows you to do also is to compress time frames as you go through your transformation. Because all the time that you would ordinarily waste, I mean, you're loading your head with the right kind of thinking so that when you get, you know, when you get ready, you get to your destination or whatever, you can be active, you could be using your time to catch up on activity, do more appointments, do more of the things that's going to cause you to move forward in your career, and you can catch up and you can make a lot of progress. One thing you can do, and I think you've found this, once you go through that transition, you can make so much progress in a short period of time. Because most people don't work. It's not, you weren't the guy working, you know, 50% of the people don't work hard. And the ones that do work hard are haphazard. They don't have a system, they don't have a consistent, they don't follow role models, they don't have patterns. But if you, you know, again, it's probably in the book, you know, but you beat 50% of the people by working hard and another 40% by following the leaders, following the success patterns that are already out there. And step by step, that's what you fell into. You came, you know, you change. You say you become a different kind of person. You become a different kind of person. You can become a different kind of person in the way that you Think and act, we're all the same. Going to be the same kind of personality and nature, past experiences. But you can take charge of your life and change how you think, how you view the world. In fact, you need to get ready, because if you're going to keep growing, that's what you're going to be doing the rest of your life. Your mind is going to be opening up. You know, things that you're pigheaded about, you're going to be softening your viewpoint on and being more understanding of other people and accepting of it. And, you know, no, you won't be as rigid. You know, you'll be rigid on the things you know that work. But other things, you can adapt and continue to improve. And so you can change. And you change pretty fast. Did you.
You know, one thing, one thing that I, that I learned is that how our brain works based on daily things, like mundane things. Like, for example. Yeah. Have you ever had a song that sticks to you and sometimes you're not even listening to the song, but you hear it in your head.
Right.
Or, for example, you have an accent. Right. And I have an accent.
Right.
Let's say that you move to Colombia.
Yeah.
You stay there in for three years, you're going to be learning Spanish and you're going to be speaking Spanish with the accent that we have over there.
Right?
Right. Because you're surrounded by those people. So that's the same thing that happens when you have audios and audiobooks instead of music. So one of my rules was no more music. Just audiobooks. Just audiobooks. So my head sometimes I was not reading anything, not listening to anything, but it came like a song. I remember one time, it was December of 2014. So I was. I was living with my sister and some friend of her are friends of my family. They were visiting. It was very cold in Miami. And those days I used to wake up at 4:15 to go out and walk and do my affirmation. So my alarm goes off 4:15 in the morning, and I'm thinking, wow, it's cold. There's people visiting. If I go out, they're going to wake up because they see me going out. Maybe for today I'll stay and I'll do it tomorrow. So I close my eyes again and then this voice come to my head. He said, get up and do never give up. It was from an audio. I always listen.
Wow.
It just came to me. Get up and do never give up. So I was like, wow, it's like God was talking to me. I don't know. It might be. It might be what happened. Yeah, maybe that was the way that he used to come to me, to my head. Larry I woke up immediately and I came out. I went out and I never stayed at home. Never, never. From that moment, I kept going and going and going. So what happened is the way that our brains work. You're always recording where you're listening. So this became my new music. My new music were mental toughness masteries. Jim Rohn, John Maxwell, Tony Robbins, Grant Cardone, R. Williams, Larry Dale. So everything in my mind, my new music or my new songs were audios on how to get good in your craft, in your life, how to get better. And that totally changed my life.
