The Serial Winner Playbook: How to Stack Victories Instead of Chasing Wins

Larry Weidel went from broke to successful in financial services by joining a community that kept him accountable. He argues that books and seminars don't stick, but weekly rituals with peers and role models do. The Big Hitter Community compresses years of growth into months through stacked wins and peer pressure.

What is priceless are the people who use the great ideas. And so how do you go from someone fumbling and stumbling to someone who is in organized ways using these great ideas to make great things happen in your life, which, you know, are the things you are uniquely interested in and you are uniquely called to do and where you can make a unique impact. So, you know, it's a transformation.
Hello, this is Larry Wydell and let's talk about winning. I want to give you behind the scenes some behind the scenes insights about going from, you know, the rags to riches, you know, the details of the rags to riches stories. I'm going to give you my own example. And what evolved was how the most successful or one of the most successful trained, you know, leadership development, personal development training programs and systems was developed. And it was came from the ground up, you know, and, you know, when I started food stamps, unemployment, I had to change industries and go from construction. And I chose financial services because the unlimited potential and the stability of it, unfortunately, I just didn't know anything about it. And I went through a stage where, you know, I had to learn the fundamentals. I was in sales and then we decided to go big time and open up offices all over the country. As a result, I had, you know, I got back into my game, which was working with large groups of people going through multiple things, just like stages you do in building houses. So I basically got back into my wheelhouse of skill sets that I really didn't know that I had. But what happened was, you know, this, you know, eventually this thing really caught on fire. Amazing things happened and I was able to go from, you know, I was stumbling and fumbling in the beginning and, you know, that's what you do when you, I was on food stamps and unemployment. You hear all this stuff there. What, you know, I read every book I could get my hands on. We'll talk about more about that in a minute. But the thing is that you start putting the pieces together. You're stumbling and fumbling. You're trying to create a road for yourself, a pattern. You can create a cycle of success where you can win again and again and again. And you hear things, but it's a matter of how do you apply these things and put them in your life and make them your things, your principles, not just something you read about in a book. Because the great thing is that great, again, I say this all the time, great ideas don't care who use them. But most great ideas are pretty much worthless. What is priceless are the People who use the great ideas. And so how do you go from someone fumbling and stumbling to someone who's in organized ways using these great ideas to make great things happen in your life, which are the things you are uniquely interested in and you are uniquely called to do and where you can make a unique impact. So, you know, it's a transformation. And so out of my transformation assistant for helping, since it was so tough for me to figure it out, you know, passing that on to other people, this system kind of evolved and now we have the big hitter community and we're, you know, blowing and going and you know, getting ready. We want to have a big army, you know, we want to have an, assemble an army of winners. People who want to do great things, who have done great things. You know, I say it's $4 million earners, but it's for people who, high achievers, people who want to do something great with their life, know they got capable of doing it, but not quite fully organized and fully operational to the level of success they know they're capable of. Those are the people you have to, what do you, you know, the thing is you, what's your motivation level? You know, lower level motivation, you know, middle, you know, high motivation? Maybe you just want to start to see if you can do better. That's with me, you know, I figured I don't know how high I can go, but I can get at the top half, you know, because I learned, you know, you hear things like this. 50, you beat 50% of the people by working hard. You know, another way of saying that you beat 50% of the people by just showing up. And then it's a matter of you beat another 40% by having a little method, a little rhyme or reason to what you do. And so you hear things like that and you say, I want to, you know, I'll work hard, but I got to get a system. And how do I get in the system? Well, you get the system by watching and learning from the people that are already successful. And you don't copy everything they do in the beginning. You try and model them as quickly as possible, as closely as possible. But you're going to have your own peculiarities because you know, you can't always exactly copy someone else. But you can get the trends, you can get the idea, you can get the picture. The thing is that you gotta have role models. You have heroes, inspire people to greatness and you gotta get that in your head. And they start average like everybody else. Average, ordinary. They start on the Equivalent of food stamps and unemployment. And then they climb, you know, wanting, they gotta burn, you know, burning the thing in their heart to do something great with their life. And how about you? I don't know your motivation. Maybe it's just, you know, when I got started, I didn't know. I didn't know how high to dream because I didn't know that I could do it at all. But I knew the right industry. I wanted to get in an industry where I had unlimited potential. I wanted to get something I could feel good. I was helping people. I was telling people the truth. I was helping them give them a good financial plan, straighten out their life. And I could feel good about that. When I see them later, after I did business with them, they'd smile when they ran into me on the street. And that's what I wanted, you know, long term relationships and friends and things like that where you could make money but you can feel good about yourself, feel like you're making a difference in the world, making lives better. And so that's what you want to get. You want to get that kind of professional satisfaction now, but you want to do well. In fact, Harvard studies show that most of the transformation that the critical, life changing, personal development, key breakthroughs happen not from sitting at the feet of a guru, although you can learn a lot of principles and get a lot of inspiration there. But the bulk of them come from people going through the same transition you're going through. Because you're around those people more, you can interact with them more, you can relate more to what they're going through. They can explain things a lot of times more street level. I've got 40 different. I didn't even realize this as I was coming up the ladder. I thought it was all the great people I knew that I had the privilege of having in my life the big experts. And I could know as a friend or an uncle or a cousin or someone in business with and had a special relationship. And we'd be talking all the time. But occasionally I'd go to some seminars and get a three day blast of information. I thought, you know, that's where I got all my stuff. You think Bezos and Richard Branson are not watching Elon Musk? And you know, all, all the way across the board, you think these CEOs, the hedge fund guys don't know what the other hedge fund guys are doing? You know, of course, you know, they're learning from each other. Someone gets a great idea, they try it, figure out, you know, they got their Spies inside their offices. And at least they're watching and listening to the interviews. What do they, how do they react that, how do they make that happen? Everybody wants to get better and everybody at the top knows great ideas, don't care who use them. And so you'll see, even pro golfers, you know, you see the pro golfers will, you know, Tiger woods out there asking somebody who's really good, like Brad, what's his name? Faxton on putty, he's such a great putter, you know, putting this, that and the other. Get a little thing like that or something on chipping. He'll go over to somebody really good on chipping if he's got an issue on it, you know, and Phil Mickelson, you know, they're all helping each other out. They don't keep secrets because they, they're all trying to get, they're all trying to get ideas from each other along the way. And they know just giving someone or show, you know, the idea or showing them the technique doesn't mean they have to apply it, they have to be able to master it. But we, it's fun to pass on secrets of winning. It is, it's contagious. It's an exciting way to live. It's a fun way to live because you're talking about winning and you're not just winning yourself, you're learning about winning. And it has a rejuvenating, energizing effect on your mind. And when you're talking to other people about it, it wakes up those things inside your brain like, you know, winning is a wonderful way to live your life. And we, yeah, we created, I work, I've been, you know, I've been paid over nine figures doing coaching, developing million dollar earners, high achievers and you know, for free, coaching people in all kind of industries. Just because the world needs more winners, the world needs more super high achievers because their effect on the community. They're like lightning bolts in the sky in terms of blazes, of electrifying people and setting them on fire and getting, you know, getting them going. They can change things Dramat. They create companies where, you know, hundreds, thousands are employed. You know, mindsets are changed, you know, you know, discoveries are made. And that didn't come from the people sweeping the floors, God bless them. It comes from the people are in a position to discover things, to make changes, to make decisions that have impact. So there's, you know, there's nothing bad about a low motivated person who is interested and thirsty to move up and so take the free, you know, don't pay for anything. Listen to my podcast. Listen to this podcast. It's free. Take all the free stuff. And then when you get ready for more, start to reach up. You know, you maybe get my book or somebody else's book, you know, don't spend a lot of money, let that fester, let it grow. But when you, you'll know when you're ready to move up and you want to get in a serious environment. But if you're ready, you know, you want to do it quick, move up, make, go through those transformations quicker and faster and build momentum and not lose time and make good, you know, make solid progress in your relationships and start building up a network of solid friends. Then you get, you know, take a, you might decide to take advantage of some other options that are out there and one of those is our community. But there's a lot of options out there, you know, that people are doing these one day events, two day events, three day events, and.
This is how you move up from an 80% to a 20% to a 4% to a 1 percenter. And books inspire you. Courses inform you the brutal truth. They don't transform you, unfortunately, they don't transform you. But you know, the thing is, a book's only going to do good for a book, you know, listening to a tape or a video or this, that the other is only going to retain so much. It's only when you start using these things and apply them into your life, it's like a seed. You know, we can get a packet of seeds right here. We're not going to grow anything until we get it in the ground. Get a little water on it, get a little fertilizer on it, you know, let it percolate there, let the roots grow. Events, retreats, you know, get to the competition. But the deal is those events, those crisis 1, 2, 3 day events are good for maybe making some friends, maybe having a light bulb moment, maybe hearing some new ideas, but poor on making personal transformation. You know, you can't really blame some guru who puts on an insanely great weekend school or retreat or whatever if the personal transformation does not occur. Because personal transformation, permanent personal development and transformation takes time. And you know, if people don't get in a, they don't have a program somewhere there's a program they can participate, they can compete in, there's a group of people doing the same thing that they can measure their progress against. Even something like being an amateur guitar player. My.
Brother in law Ned loves to Play the guitar. And he's, he's had the guitar around, you know, plunked around on it for years and really good, you know. But he's gotten really, really better since he found this group that's like two hours from where he lives. And once a week he'll drive two hours over there and they'll play, you know, in this. They got this barn where they will sit around and play informally two or three hours, just different ones getting in and sharing a song. And you know, they provoke each other to greatness. Who do you have around there that's provoking you to greatness where you can measure? They're making things, they're making breakthroughs, they got something to offer to back at you. There's something that inspires you see, that comes from a community or that comes from a company or you know, a charity group or something like that. You got to get. See, I don't think it's five. I think it's more than your five closest friends that.
Are the five you spend your time with that make the biggest difference in your life. And that's indicator of who you're going to be down the road. You know, the average success of all the people, I think it has to do with the groups you plug into. You know, what church are you in, what company are you in, what clubs are you in? You know, how, you know, how serious are the people inside those groups. And if you what, what we did is we put a group together on winning because we know nobody's got a worldwide virtual country club dedicated on winning. And so that's what we put together. We know nobody's got one of these, but everybody needs one of these. A virtual worldwide country club situation type thing dedicated to winning, talking about positive things, ideas, breakthroughs, and constantly bouncing stories of progress to provoke people to greatness and to share the ideas and insights that allowed them to achieve that. And giving people a forum where they can again answers the questions that will allow them to do that. So that's why we built the, the big hitter community. Because see the retreats, the competition, everything good for to kind of spice things up and you know, stir it up. But you know, God has showed us, nature has shown us the pattern for permanent personal development. It's like how plants grow. All plants grow the same. I'll let exposure to the sun, you got your water, you plant them in the ground. They've got the nurturing community, you know, a group of people around, a group of dirt around there with solid nutrition in there. You Have a little moisture, which is the motivation and the excitement to create a little energy in there and a sparkle to get them to come out of their shell. And then you have the exposure to the sun. And the sun is exposure to great leaders, exposing to people that are doing it at the highest level. And so that allows you to go up and don't think that you know, everybody, you know, all the plants are competing for sunlight. You know, even the biggest hundred year old oaks are competing with the other trees in the forest because their canopy, they want their canopy to grow higher than the other trees so they can get more sun because they, you know, nature knows you only grow so much every day. You're not going to get big light. You know, there's no lightning storm comes through your town and like bam. We had an incredible lightning storm last night. And all my play, all my vegetables grew, you know. You know, I put them in last night and now I got pickles, you know, now I got watermelons. Now I got, you know, gourds or something. Tomato. I'll see my tomato just last night, big lightning storm. Unbelievable. Liar, liar. That didn't happen. Like that happens over time. And the transformation you're going to go through, people look at you and your friends, you know, friends and relatives will look at you, say, well, I thought you were going to do something great with your life. I thought you were moving up. You know, while you're going through it, you're moving, but you're like the minute hand on the clock. You're moving, but people can't really actually see it happen. Very rarely. Every now and then they'll see a click. But the thing is, if you're inside the program, you know, we keep these plants in the ground, they're going to grow, they're going to, you know, it's transformation from, from, you know, month to month to year to year is just mind blowing. It's just like how a baby can grow so much as the progress they can make. But if you look at it on a daily basis, it seems excruciatingly slow. You know, it's like, Mary, the baby's still pooping in his pants. I thought we had that solved. You know, how many times we have to talk to that kid? It takes, it's a process. You can't get mad. It takes what it takes. You know, they'll be potty trained when they're supposed to be potty trained. You know, some learn quick, some don't. And you know, the thing is that it takes time but once it goes, you know, once they're potty trained, it's not like they're 8 years old and then they're back pooping in their pants and you got to put them on diapers again. You know, once you make these breakthroughs, folks, you got it for the rest of your life. And it's now a bigger foundation to go and accomplish bigger, bigger things. But, you know, you have to certain, have a certain amount of patience. So that's why we. You want to be in a community where it is fun, where the focus is clear, sharp, inspiring, and where the people are talking, know what they're talking about. Not rather than a professor just dreamed up something at one of these universities and all that professor mainly talked to was other professors and, you know, studied people. Or maybe they interviewed high achievers. But, you know, really, does the zookeeper really know what the. Your gorilla's thinking? You know, you're feeding them, you're around them all the time. But do you really know how the gorilla's thinking? No. And so these interviewers, do they really know how Jeff Bezos thinks or Elon Musk thinks or, you know, any of the high achievers in business? No, you need them to tell you how they think. And when we would have a management retreat or a training thing or something, we'd be in a hotel and we'd hit break for lunch. And when you broke for lunch, everybody needed the same place. We didn't have long. You didn't have time to go off campus there. You had to stay right there. You had to eat and get right back in the meeting. So everybody's eating there, but you know, most of the time the big shots, the people who spoke and the people who organize the thing, they're sitting at one table, they're talking amongst themselves, they're sharing ideas, and then everybody else is kind of eavesdropping. What are they talking about? What are they talking about? You know, wishing they were over there trying to pick up, you know, thinking that somehow magic words are going to come out of that. So I thought, you know, there's such a hunger, you know, because they know greatness is caught and not taught. And you never know when you're around big hitters and they're talking about just anything where you're going to pick up something could change your life. Because here's the thing, they don't know what you're missing. You don't know what you're missing. But the more time you spend around them, the more likely that the next Thing you need to hear is going to come to the surface. And so, you know, you just like to be around, you know, as much as possible. So when I put this, when I put the, my original, you know, I've done these calls by my Monday morning locker room calls. What I did, you know, I called million dollar locker room, million dollar earner locker room calls. Now we kick off the week with a bang. We not leave any. You know, every week needs to start with a bag. Every month needs to start with a bank. Every year with a bang. But mainly every week so that you could have every day. You know, you got to get the ball rolling. You know, it's just like any, any game, you tell me a game where there's not a kickoff kick off, blow the whistle, go, you go to the Masters. Even in golf, on the first tee, we have from whatever one or of so and so's in a row, you know, Rory McElroy, hey, he tees off. See, folks, is official kickoff to important events. And so is this week important for you. This week could be the greatest week of your life. You got to approach it like every week is. The week could be the greatest week of your life. And it should be the greatest week of your life because you're more experienced, you're more knowledgeable, you got more contacts. Even if you got a health problem or this problem or that problem, you've got other.
Resources to apply to that thing. All you got to do is do a little planning, a little thinking and get, you know, light the firecracker and set it off. And if you don't plan to have a successful week, you're planning to fail. How many times we all heard that thing? I mean, you got All Stars, this, that, the other big. They're prime. They've got, you know, history on the line. They got all the reason in the world. But guess what? They still have a locker room talk before they go out and kick off. Do you have a locker room talk? Do you have anything like that in your life? No. Unless you're in a great company where they have a positive sales call or management team leaders. The growing companies do. All the growing companies, all the electrified companies, energized, focused, organized, everybody's around the mission. They have a call, a kickoff thing. And so I don't know if, you know, if you have that, God bless you, you know, but this is for people who want to have something for themselves to get themselves here. If you could hear, hit one idea in an hour that you hadn't really the Light bulb hadn't gone on on that. You hadn't heard it said that way. You know, one all, it takes your one idea away from an explosion. In the recruiting training business, we used to say you're one recruit away from an explosion. But you know, in life, in every area of your life, relationship with your spouse, relationship with your kids, relationship with your health, relationship with your neighbors, relationship with your God, you're one idea away from a breakthrough. And so where are you going to get that? You're going to get that from? You're going to. You don't know what you're missing, you don't know where that. You know, we never know what the missing piece is. It's not like the jigsaw. You say it's shaped like this. No, you know, we know we're missing stuff. We can't put our finger on it. The people who know the answers, they don't know what you're missing either. But when you get around where you can eavesdrop in a no pressure situation, eavesdrop or maybe have a chance to ask a question or two and hear them talk, hear high achievers talk amongst themselves about one or another aspect of winning, these things burble to the surface. How they think, how they go about it and stuff. You know, winners are doing so many things right, they don't even, you know, they're unconscious about it. Most of the time they're not even thinking about it. And so the thing is that, you know, usually when you come up, you say, you know, I saw you did this, that you say that and they take it. Oh, really? That's just how I do it, you know, realize all the people who are not doing that, are not thinking like that are never even heard of that. You know, we just take. There's so much stuff to keep up with and, you know, we tend to take a lot of it for granted. And so we don't know what you're missing, you don't know what you're missing. But if we get together and talk and get around each other where, you know, we can talk about this stuff, things can pop into your mind. And a lot of times it had nothing to do with what we're talking about, but it will spark something in your mind and your subconscious will go boom, boom, and you're off to the races. And I see that all the time in management meetings where, see, this is what's wrong. It's great to go off to, you know, after 13 years, I did leadership retreats. Early December, Aspen and they were great. But every single one of them started off with a big million dollar Mastermind luncheon on Thursday at 1:00'. Clock. Kind of a had the most serious people come in a day early. And we kick it off in the afternoon or Thursday and the first hour every time. And we were going to be there Friday, Saturday, Sunday is great, we can ski, we get more meetings and you know, share ideas. But by after the first hour, every time we did one of those, I'd see people all over the room. There'd be 200 people in there. And I look around the room and I could see it's like the old Kmart blue light special. Like the light bulb would go off of their head and you could tell they're ready to race out of the room and jump on the plane and go back home. Because they got something, they got an idea that they're super fired up about. And so that's really how you grow. You grow one step at a time, day by day, by day life, you know that that's how animals grow, plants grow, and that's how you're going to grow. On your development, there's a lot of things you got to learn. You got to think, you learn which we call head knowledge. And then you have a heart and experiential knowledge. You have to work that way into your schedule, into your activity, into your routine. So you have your head knowledge, you have your heart knowledge where you understand it, and then you have your experiential knowledge. So we set up an environment where that could happen. And we found that as good as these one time events were, and again, I've done a zillion of them that nothing replaces the day in, day out. Being a part of a community where you got people plugged into and united around the whole idea of winning. Personal development, reaching their potential, impacting the world for good, and unapologetically.
Moving forward to do great things in their life in whatever area they're called to do. And so the what if you could Compress the next 10 years of growth into one, into one year, compress 10 years into one. See, not by working harder, but by eliminating guesswork, by stacking wins, by being in a room with people who've already done what you're trying to do. And so this is stick with me because this is how you do it. You're smart, you're capable, you know you're meant for more, but you're stuck. Maybe you're spinning your wheels, you're reading all the books, you're Taking the course is consuming content like it's your job. But you're not breaking through. You can't see the next step. You're tired of scattered success. You want consistent wins. Well, the kind that stack and compound and open up a kaleidoscope of new opportunities, a cascade of new opportunities. An origami unfolding world of new opportunities. You connect with other winners who push you and you compress time frames. What takes most people in a decade, you do in a year. And so you eliminate guesswork. No more trial and error. You follow proven roadmap laid out by people who've already hit the million dollar earner status and beyond. So it's built for people who are sick of reading and studying without results, listening to videos, studying, going to these things without results. If you're looking for more results, this is the missing piece of the puzzle. And if you ever wonder if it could happen to you, it can be. But you got to make a change. You got to be capable. You know, you're capable of becoming the mvp, the record breaker, the hero. We need you to do that. The world needs you to be monstrously successful because of the impact.
Positive impact you can have. But you can't do it alone. You can't do it with half measures. The cycle of winning. And that was what my book was about, the cycle of winning serial winners. How people win over and over again.
It's not a concept, it's a road. And right now you're standing at the trailhead. And so here's what I want you to do. If you're someone who knows you've got to keep it right. There's better friends at the top. There's better experiences at the top. So whatever you're doing. If you enjoy it now, you're going to enjoy it a whole lot more when you move towards the top.
