Walls: Winners Don't Let Walls Stop Them

Larry Weidel on the obstacles that block your goals: rules, money, skills, lack of precedent. Walls are inevitable, but you can recognize them early, adjust your plan, get advice, and pick your tool to get through. Seek and you shall find.
Lets talk about winners and walls. This is another part of our problem solving series and the whole thing comes down to you can have freedom, but that does not mean you are free to wander around the earth, do whatever you want, whenever you want. Like la de da whistling a happy tune. Pollyanna, Mary Poppins, la de da da da. It's just a cartoon happily going through life. And that's why, that's because there are things called these walls. And walls are what? What are the walls that you run into in life that you're going to have to deal with? They are rules, they are regulations. You know, rules, laws, regulations. They are, they in essence put fences or barriers around the things that you want. What kind of barriers? Well, if it's not a, something written down in the rule book of life the police are going to enforce, it could be the fact of lack of, you know, like no money, don't have enough money to do these things, you know, go where you want, do what you want. It could be you don't have enough people to help you to get the job done with, you know, I want to build a skyscraper. Well, it's going to take a lot of money and a lot of people. Another thing is you might not have the knowledge. It pops into your head. You see people doing things. You say, I'd love to do that. But you don't have the knowledge, the skill. And it could be one barrier is that no one has ever done it. So there's not a lot of help you can get now in spite of that. See these are all walls. It creates barriers in you going through to get to where you want to go. And another thing you need to realize about it is these things are inevitable. You're going to run into them. You can't get through life without running into restrictions that you have to overcome. And they are no matter how. Look at this thing. That's solid, that's real. You can't wish it away. I wish it wasn't there. It's there. You're going to have to deal with it. Now it could be something predictable, unpredictable. It could be that it's, you know, this is fair, something everybody's got to deal with. It could be unfair. This is not right. Nobody else has had to deal with it doesn't matter. The thing is if they're there, they're there and you're going to have to deal with it. So what you do is if this is you wandering along in life, the more you look down the road and you start to see this Thing down here, you know, your eyes are looking down the road. The further you could look down the road and you see what you're running into. The alarms go off. Now you can start giving yourself a little warning and you can say, get past the, uh, oh, stage. And you say, I get it. I've got to switch course. I've got to do something. And so that's where you could do the normal things. The first thing you do, like we talked over in the minefield, you can adjust your course or you adjust your plan. You say, that's unrealistic or it's not going to be worth the effort. You can change direction. You can go in a different and maybe even more appealing approach in your life. You can get advice from people who, you know, who have faced these kinds of obstacles before. And ultimately, you got to get a plan of attack. Now, the problem is you are here. What you want is to be over here. But you got this blocking your way. Now, some people prefer to not admit reality. They see it. They look down the road, they see it, but they say, that's not going to affect me. And then they run right into it and knock themselves out. And sometimes that's the best thing that can happen to you to knock some sense into your head. But sooner or later, you're going to realize you got to deal with that thing. And here's the thing. Either going to have to adjust your dream, change direction, get advice, or you say, no, this is where I want to get. I want to get over here. I want to get over this side. Well, your choice. You look at your choice. Just because it appears like you can't get over, that doesn't mean you can't get over, because you've got a lot of options. You can go over, you can go under. See, this is where you want to get your tools. See, this looks insurmountable until you go over there and you get yourself, say what, a ladder. Stick a ladder up there with some rungs on it. Now, this doesn't look like quite a problem. Or you get yourself a shovel and you start shoveling your way under. And see, that might take a little longer, a little nastier, but you can get to the other. The key is, can you get to the other side? Most of the time you're not promised every time, but most of the time, yes, you can get to the other side. If you. Or sometimes you get yourself a bulldozer and you just knock this thing down. You know, you start chipping away, you get a sledgehammer if this is, it's like a tree. If you have. No matter how big the biggest red. I don't recommend you do this, but no matter how big the biggest redwood in the forest is, if you start slinging your axe at it and keep sharpening your axe and keep getting your energy and getting out there and you stay on the attack, that tree has got to fall down. If you start getting a chisel, a sledgehammer, keep chiseling away, this wall is going to come down. You'll chisel away through. All you need is a hole big enough for you to climb through. All you need is a hole big enough for you to go through. Or here. All you need is a way you can get over and jump to the other side. Because once you get over here, it won't matter how you did it. It'll just a matter that now you got where you want to go. So the way winners look at walls is just another thing they've got to deal with in life. It's just like the minefield thing. And winners don't melt when they run into obstacles. Winners realize it's inevitable. I can go where I want to go, do what I want to do in my life, if I can find a way to get around the restrictive walls that keep most people out from reaching the same kinds of things. Just because you have a wall stand in front, it looks scary, it looks impossible. You have no idea how you're going to do it right when you first see it. Well, there's other things you can do. You get a plan, you get the attack, you get some tools, and you're going to find just like many before you, you can get to the other side. So this is where you want to go to those biblical verses, seek and you shall find. Knock and it'll be open. There's nothing new under the sun that you're going to face that other people haven't had to face before in life. So you can take hope, you can take encouragement. You don't have to immediately curl into a ball and start sucking your thumb and give up just because you run into a wall. Folks. Walls are put there to test you, to make you stronger, to cause you to learn things that you can use as you move on through life. Don't run from your walls. Face them and go where you want to go.
