What Do You Want to be True About You? with Dean Francis

Dean Francis describes writing a declaration statement about who you want to become, then reading it aloud repeatedly to reprogram habits. He added "gentle and thoughtful" to his and started sending notes, texts, and flowers. The practice works through repetition and reminding yourself not to backslide.

I'm here talking with Dean Francis, and we're talking about winning. Dean, you have talked to a lot of people. You have learned a lot. You've read a lot. And now what are your how do you organize. How do you think people can organize themselves for success? One of the. The biggest things they can do to organize themselves to be successful.
Well, first you got to know where you're going. And I think there's an exercise we always have people go through to say, what do you. What. What do you want to be true about you? And so that can have to do with maybe some business and financial success, but it can also have to do with the kind of person that you want to be as a husband, as a father, you know, a mother or a wife and a friend. And so I like how in success is not an Accident, Tommy Newberry says that success is inevitable. If you do, you apply the right thinking and the right actions. But he then talks about how it's the most successful people in the world know what it is they want to achieve and who they want to become. And I think one of the things that we be guilty of is we get so caught up with maybe a business goal or a financial goal, we forget about the person that we want to become. And so a few years ago, I took this really serious. So here's a mistake I made. And then I improved on it later. Many, many years ago, I did read the book what to say when youn Talk to Yourself. And it's an amazing book. And it really helps you create in your mind the kind of person you want to be, the kind of life you want to have. And you begin to program yourself. You kind of have an affirmation statement you create. It's how your mind works. It's fascinating. I remember reading it thinking, man, it's amazing. And it helped me some. But I never did the exercises. And so finally, years later, I got serious about that, and I really did. In fact, I didn't call it an affirmation statement. I called it a declaration statement. I thought about our country and how the Declaration of Independence. I usually ask people, I said, you know, when was our country free? A lot of people say, July 4, 1776. I said, well, that's actually the day we declared it, but we weren't free. And I think that we have to declare what we want before we actually achieve it. And, you know, in our country's founding, people took that Declaration of Independence. They posted it everywhere in all these small towns. People would read it out loud and. And it began to ingrain itself into the DNA of our country. And I think the same was true for me. When I finally applied that exercise and kind of wrote out my declaration statement, it meant a lot to me. It was about who I wanted to become, what I want to achieve, you know, in all areas of life. And I would read it over and over a lot of times to myself. If no one was around, I'd read it out loud. He said, if you can read it out loud, that's even better.
Hey, listen, there's a lot of information online, but there aren't a lot of people who have actually done something. In my case, I've actually built a successful business, has accrued over $5 billion in assets under management, and has done well even during trying times. Now, if you want to know exactly how I've done this, go to Whiteellumwinning.com webinar Now, I've compressed a decade of learning into five short weeks. Just for those of you who want to give yourself an incredible advantage and are tired of waiting and watching others move up.
I remember. This is kind of funny, Larry. One of the things in there I had was that I wanted to. I said I would say I am gentle and thoughtful, and I was referring to my, you know, as a husband. Okay. Because I asked Sarah, what's one quality you'd like to see more of me? And she said, well, thoughtful. So I put that in my declaration. And I remember about three weeks into it, and I'm like, I'm reading this, I'm thinking, you know, Dean, you're a big liar. You're not thoughtful. What have you done anything? I haven't done nothing. I remember getting mad at myself after reading that for three weeks, thinking, I'm not any more thoughtful than I was three weeks ago. But I think that's the point. When you read that over and over, boom. I then actually started to do some things. And sure enough, it was just a few weeks after that, Sarah said to me, you know, you have been so thoughtful lately, anyway. Yeah, yeah. So there's something about.
I guess when you finally did it, it stood out so dramatically, she had.
To comment, yes, yes. And it Kind of went back to something we said today. Like a lot of us don't need to be taught, we need to be reminded. I need to be reminded over and over. And who do I want to be? What do I want to. What do I want to achieve? I can't stop doing that. The second I do, I go backwards.
Well, what do you thoughtful mean to you and what is it? What do you think? How did you interpret that? You know, the light bulb went on. Just considering how your actions would impact others or what's thought. What is thoughtful?
Well, thoughtful.
Why is that important?
Thoughtful for her means that I would. She knows I get so focused on goals, I get so consumed with them. And so when I'm in that mode, she obviously wouldn't, you know, would start to think, well, obviously he's not thinking about me. So me just starting to learn that. Okay, I'm going to take a moment here and write a note or a text. I'm going to get some flowers, you know. You know, my big thing is lately, by the way, I've been providing turn down service, you know, and that was a big thing. So anyway, you know, just, it's amazing.
You know, and the question, Dean, that is thoughtful.
Yeah, it is, it is. And in fact, I even. This is another one. This is more recent history. I actually started making our bed every morning. She had done that for 30 years. What?
What?
And you know, it is interesting and we have different, all different love languages, but just, you know, it's amazing. All these little tiny things can make a big difference. Unbelievable.
Thanks so much, Dean. You've been very gracious with your time and can't thank you enough.
Yeah, it was fun, great to be here.
