Most real estate agents spend 80% of their time in non dollar productive activities. Once you secure a buyer client thinking that showing them homes or researching listings, or you're typing in MLS remarks, or you're doing data entry in your mls, those are things that have to get done. But I could literally hire someone that I can pay $10 an hour to do those tasks. The industry set us up for this. It's really not the agent's fault. 1% of agents sell 25 homes or more per year. And it's because of this tendency that servicing the client is where the money is made. But generating the client, getting face to face with someone that you have the opportunity to sign them up as a new buyer or sign them up as a new seller. That's where the actual money is made in real estate. On more than one occasion, I actually went into the closing room and I didn't know which client was mine. And I am not proud to admit this. I was doing a lot of business. 44 transactions my first full year, then 58, then 118, then 178. So I grew the business quick. And I don't advise, advise this, so I don't advise that you don't know which client is yours. But my mindset was so focused on getting the next deal that I wasn't as concerned with my existing clients. Again, not the way I want you to run your business. But the takeaway is that you have to be obsessed about finding that next client and not as obsessed with servicing that existing client.
