Create a Vision that Your Team Will Resonate With

A motivational YouTube talk arguing that "vision is a team sport": leaders must cast vision but also make it contagious by involving the whole team. Practical tactics include consistently sharing company stories, celebrating team milestones, and creating internal "wow" moments for employees as well as customers. The speaker elicits audience vision statements (e.g., Dave's faith-based real estate vision) to illustrate conviction and contagiousness.
I promise you, this is so far from anything that you've ever been to. And now, second thing, if you could jot this down. Vision. Vision is a team sport. Vision is team sport. Oh, I love this topic. Have you ever felt, though, like you've been to an off site or you put your vision up on the walls in your office or whatever, but then when the off site's over, or maybe you cover your vision as a sales meeting or something, what can tend to happen to those beautiful words that you orchestrated? What happens to that? It drifts, right? It drifts and it leaks away. Well, vision's a team sport. Yes. It's incumbent upon us, us bold leaders, right. To cast that vision, but we want to take that vision and share that vision in such a way that that vision is not only resonating with our team, but our team really buys into that vision. Right? And our team is sharing that vision. And that's when you know you've really crossed a bridge as it relates to vision and things like culture. I'm so excited. In a few minutes here, I'm going to share a video not yet on the Zappos culture. And so I want you to remember that about the team sport when you're watching this Zappos video today. Tell me if you think it's all just Tony the CEO, or if it's truly a team sport. Jot this down this question, if you could, please. This is a great question. This would be from your customer's perspective. This would be your customer's perspective. Does this business care about me? Does this business care about me? I love that question. Does this business care about me? I want to challenge you. Yes. You want to create a wow moment for your customers. Yeah. But you want to create wow moments for your internal team. Right. Because you're leading your internal team. What is your vision at the large group? It's to motivate, is to inspire people to create a better life through real estate. It's to motivate for us. That's our vision. To motivate and inspire people to create a better life through real estate. Who knows their vision? I'm just curious. Anybody? If you know your vision, raise your hand if you know it. Dave, what's your vision? Faith based real estate group that enriches.
The lives of those we interact with and the way we practice life and business.
Isn't that great? I love that. Right? Anybody else? Anybody else know their vision? Yes.
To deliver happiness to our clients, team members and vendors that we work with. We happen to do it on a real estate platform by using superior systems.
And people give it a hand for that. That is really good. That is good stuff. That is good stuff. And did this guy have vision? Did this guy leave a legacy? Absolutely. No doubt. But when I hear people share their vision like that, I believe that's where each one of us needs to be, is when we have that kind of conviction. Did you hear the way Dave said that? The way he said that? That kind of conviction bleeds. Right? Our team catches that more as caught than taught. The old phrase, right. As parents, parent of four up here, right? And so we want to have. We gotta know our vision. And the more we know our vision, the more it spreads out. So start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can. Let me give you a couple of real, tangible ways, though, to share the vision. And so it's not just coming from you, but it's coming from everybody on your team. One of the most powerful ways, and Lars has done a good job of this in my time with him, would be to share your company stories on a consistent basis. Share your company stories on a consistent basis. You know, I can't think of how many times I've heard Lars tell the story about how he hired his first admin, you know, Tia, how many times have you heard that story, cherie? 100 times. Lars has told the story of Tia Wilson. Right. And she's still with us today. My point there is we all, everybody in this room has more stories than you think about how your business started, how you got to certain milestones. And it's incumbent upon us as leaders to ingrain those stories into the fabric. Right. Of our culture. Share those in team meetings, Share those in off sites. Share stories. That's how culture and vision can get spread. Second thing would be, is do a lot of celebrating. Celebrate your successes. Celebrate your successes as a team. That drives vision. Does your team work hard? Yes, absolutely. I'm constantly. I don't know if convicted is the right word, but appreciating the long hours, the late night texts that we get from people, the weekends, all of that. And so go and be intentional about celebrating those mile markers, those milestones that you hit. There's strength in casting vision around those gathering opportunities. And the more intentional we are about that, the more successful we'll be in casting that vision and really creating it as a team sport.
