HIGH PERFORMANCE COACHING CALL: Defining Your Life's Purpose in a Singular Statement

This coaching-session transcript guides viewers to define a singular life-purpose statement that balances 'being' (qualities to embody) and 'doing' (actions/commitments), and often ends with a 'so that' clause explaining the purpose's impact. The speaker uses examples (Brendan's and their own) and encourages practical completion of a worksheet in short focused sessions.
So defining our life's purpose in a singular statement. This is something that, it's really, really cool. I did it myself, but I'm going to go through it because I want everyone. This is that, that hokey stuff that 1% of the population will do. And they will be the 1% of the population that is like just owning their life because it's a life they designed and they're intentional and they're purposeful and they're aware and present. So I cannot encourage everyone enough. Like I'm like praying I'm down here bowing my head, praying that everyone will take this worksheet and make something of it. So anyways, I'm going to go through it with you. This one thing, every one of these Sessions is a 30 to 60 minute cup of coffee in a Starbucks. Because much of this stuff is really, really profound. I'd probably block out two or three or four hours and knock out a bunch of these sessions. But let's kind of get through this here. So we're talking about a singular statement. It sharpens your focus and reminds you of what's important. The challenge is that you can have different purposes in different parts of your life. You might have one in your relationship and another in your career and in different times of your life. Perhaps your purpose too has changed or become more defined since you're working with a coach, with me. Unfortunately, too many people also obsess about their overall life's purpose and simply don't realize living each day with purpose and meaning is the ultimate goal, regardless of if you're clear on an overall life plan or purpose. So there are a few things to consider here. The statement has to be as much about being as doing. For example, so Brendan, the founder of high Performance category, he has be fully alive and vibrant as part of his purpose statement, which has nothing to do with a career or goal oriented, objective. So he can be fully alive and vibrant at a party. He can be fully alive and vibrant in his business with his team. He can be fully alive and vibrant. When he records his training videos, there's a bunch of different. He can be fully alive and vibrant with his spouse. So that applies to every area of his life. So the things I'd like my purpose statement to remind me to be include what was mine. Mine was boldly, enthusiastic, spirited, dynamic, engaged, fearless, bold, present, vitality, fully alive, joyful. Those are some of the, some of the words that I wrote down. The statement can have to do items that aren't career focused, Brendan includes to adore and appreciate my loved ones. Which again is not something that is career related even in dressing career or ambition. Brendan's to do item is to strengthen and share my gifts. Another broad statement though everyone tells you to be super specific about what you want, which is great in goal setting. Purpose statements that are more broad and scope help us to help us focus on what's really important in a variety of contexts. The thing I'd like my purpose statement to remind me to do include and I put bring joy, respect, honor fully enjoy fully enjoy family and friends, strengthen and share my gifts, honor God. So those are some of my to do statements. The statement might also have a so that element that describes why you want to be and do all these things as part of your purpose. For example, Brendan's statement ends with so that I might inspire others to live more fully, love more openly and make a greater difference today. The why or so that reason that I want to be and do the things I wrote above is and what did I write? I wrote positive, positively influence, inspire others to experience more joy love in life. I sort of copy Brendan's there and contribute in a meaningful way. I think I wrote and so the point is to go through that sort of brainstorming exercise, remind you to be remind you to do and the so that part of it and tie them all together.
