HIGH PERFORMANCE COACHING CALL: How to Recognize and Overcome Your Major Fears

Transcript excerpt from a high-performance coaching call guiding participants through a ‘courage checklist’ exercise. The speaker defines three core non-physical fears—loss pain, process pain, and outcome pain—then prompts listeners to identify a change or dream they’ve avoided and to complete reflective sentences. A running example about building a business (real estate) illustrates trade-offs, process constraints, and potential upsides.
So let's get, let's get the worksheet going. So does everyone have this either pulled up on their screen or printed out? All right, so let's get to the courage checklist. Where does courage come from? How do we start to gain more confidence and courage in our lives? The answers lie not only in moments of crisis, but but in how we live each day of our lives. Consider the concepts below and respond to the questions. Awareness of what we fear outside of fears for physical health and dangerous situations, what we most often fear are three things. First, we fear loss pain that by changing or advancing in our lives we will lose something important to us. Second, we fear process pain that the mere act or process of changing will be too hard for us to. Third, we fear outcome pain that all the effort we put into changing may not lead to a better outcome in our lives. That the grass might not be greener. So even in all of your comments, pretty much all of these have come out. So we had some comments about doing this and it may not work out or the journey of working out or getting up early is going to make me tired or what happens. I'll lose something if I do that. So think of a change you have avoided making or a dream you have not moved towards and complete the sentences below for greater insight. I haven't changed or chased my dreams with more courage and commitment because I'm afraid I might lose what. So think of a change you've avoided making or a dream that you've not moved towards. And it could be the reason that we got involved together. You know, your dream is to build a business that could be an example. It may not be right for you, but what have you avoided? Some kind of change that you avoid making or dream that you have not moved towards. I haven't changed or chased my dreams with more courage and commitment because I'm afraid I might lose and take some time to fill that out there. And anyone that knows this is crystal clear to them and you could fill this out in a second, you can share. Otherwise I'm just going to kind of move, move through this. Yeah. John said, lol. Process fear. That's what took me an extra year to sign up with Lars. That's awesome. All right. I haven't chased. I haven't changed or chased my dreams with more courage and commitment because I'm afraid the process might bring on these hardships in my life. So the process sometimes, like easy example there is, you know, what you give up to get into physical shape. Right? So there's the time I used to think that I'd never had time to work out. But I'm pretty sure every morning most of us are free at 5 or 5:30. So I get up at 5 and I'm at the gym now, 5:30, I work out like super intense for one hour. I'm back by 6:45. Julie goes to the same trainer and she's home by 8 o'. Clock. So I'm with the kids for an hour and then she takes a shower and then I'm up here working by 8:30. So I figured it out. But that was the number one thing for years, for like 10 years. It was my excuse. I'm just too busy. My career is more important or I go from career to family. There is no time for me to work, work out. And I'm pretty sure most of you past 9, 9:30, you know, really anything past 10 if you've got kids, you know, managing that process of getting the kids to bed at a certain time and it's the same time every night, we'll always clear up time, you know, to sort of spend with your spouse or whatnot. So that, that time after 10 o' clock you're not doing anything that's productive if you're watching a bunch of TV and, and I love tv, we love tv but we watch just a certain amount of it. So I haven't changed or chased my dreams with more courage and commitment because I'm afraid the process might bring on these hardships in my life. I'm going to ask you guys for some input when we get to the end of this here because some of you have a really good example here that's worth sharing and it will help other people. For those of you that are struggling with this exercise, you know, this isn't a requirement to fill it out on the spot right now, but you should take some time here to think about, you know, where you're kind of getting hung up and it's one of those three areas. So it's loss pain, you know, we're going to lose something important to us if we make this change. It's process pain. So it's the actual, the things you need to do, it's going to be too hard for you or the outcome pain. What if it doesn't work out? What if the grass isn't greener? You know, I think a good example for some people that are, you know, not so much hesitant because most of you are, you're pretty committed to this process of building a business. But That's a good example for some of you that maybe have been a traditional agent for a certain number of years or whatnot. Okay, So I haven't changed or chased my dreams with more courage and commitment because I'm afraid that despite all the effort, the outcome might not be so good, might be not so good, and I can end up, you know, so what's the risk in doing this, right? Maybe I'll end up, you know, selling more homes but not being as profitable or spending too much money or, you know, hiring the wrong team members. You could end up in the same place. You could end up training a bunch of agents that are going to leave you. What does that look like for you? What's your thing that you're avoiding? And then when I overcome all my fears and have the courage to take action, improve my life and improve, my life will be different in this way. When. When I overcome all my fears and have the courage to take action and improve, my life will be different in this way. So using that one example of the business example, obviously the upside to doing this is off the charts, right? To have a business that's a true business. Real estate can support some really good margins, even with you just as the owner, not the operator. So the upside is having a business that truly serves you, you know, that you could take, without even thinking, you could take 20 to $30,000 of cash, post tax cash out of the business and not have to work more than 40 days per year, right? Think about that. How would your life improve once we build that in, once we build your business in that way?
