A first-person account of working six months as a carpenter doing high-end kitchen renovations in New Jersey. The narrator describes the job as low-stress and enjoyable, mentions learning renovation skills while helping a friend, and reflects that these experiences sparked an emerging affinity for homes and interest in real estate.
I worked six months as a carpenter swinging a hammer doing high end kitchen renovations in the nicest area of New Jersey at the time. I literally picked up a newspaper and I responded to an ad for a carpenter's assistant. This was a breath of fresh air. If I'm being honest. I was glad to not have stress. Mid morning I would run out, take the truck out and I'd get donuts and coffee and just me and this guy would kind of just shoot the breeze. It was very chill. I loved homes. I just had this affinity for renovating and a buddy of mine was renovating a home he had purchased and so I was taking these skills I was learning during the day and helping him in the evenings. He worked a corporate job and this is where I began to figure out that I have this affinity for homes. I don't know what's going to look like yet, but there's something there.
