How to Create a Culture of Accountability In Your Team

A leader explains how to build accountability on your team through apologies, clear goals, tracking systems, and professional mindset. The speaker argues these practices improve both team performance and business profitability.
It just takes some conversations with your agents where you have to sit them down and essentially apologize. Say, you know, lars, I have to apologize. You know, we've been working together for 18 months, and I have not been doing a good job of, you know, getting clear on where you want to be financially and what your goals look like. I have not done a good job of getting permission to help you and to maybe push you a little bit to achieve your goals or to coach you better. I have to apologize for not putting a system in place that will allow you to achieve your goals with a higher degree of certainty. And lastly, I have to apologize, and I am going to make it right. I have not done a great job of leading you. And so here is what I would ask of you. You know, would you be open to, you know, let's get together. This is a quick conversation. Let's get together for a half hour or so where we'll set your goals. Um, we'll talk about, you know, what the. What the numbers need to look like. And another thing, you need to apologize. Yeah, I think I said that. That, you know, you didn't have tracking systems in place. Um, you know, so we'll take the tracking system, we'll talk about that, and we'll talk about, you know, maybe some of the challenges you're having around your time and time blocking and what that might look like. And then you just kind of take it from there. And then you just. You kind of draw a line in the sand where you're now willing to come alongside them and go shoulder to shoulder. And over time, your business will be more profitable because your agents are treating this like a profession versus a hobby.
