I Made More Money When I Chose Personal Wellness Over Work

A first-person YouTube talk arguing that prioritizing personal wellness (routines like massage, flotation, meditation, hydration, and weekly technology-free clarity breaks) increased the speaker’s effectiveness and business results. The speaker gives tactical advice—create an ideal week, time-block it, adopt a daily cadence and morning routine—and illustrates the claim with a case study (Christina Valkenoff) and a call-to-action for a 21-day Time Freedom Challenge.

You may not believe this, but the more that I've prioritized my personal wellness, the more successful I've been in the areas of life that matter most to me. You know, whether it's my role as a husband or as a father in my physical body, my emotional well being, my spiritual journey, the more I choose personal wellness over just head down, hard charging, you know, rise and grind, the more successful I've been. You've probably heard it said before, you know, if you want to be successful, you need to put your oxygen mask on first. And self care is one of the things that hard charging, entrepreneurial minded folks, we rarely slow down to take care of ourselves. And so in today's video, I want to challenge you to maybe take a different approach. You know, if you think about an athlete like a multimillion dollar athlete and getting that athlete in a position to do like the game, you know, the thing they're gonna get paid most for, you know, what are the practices, how do they take care of themselves, how do they fuel their body, you know, massages or ice baths, like what are those things in your business, you know, and what does it look like for you to take care of yourself first so you can show up as a good mom, as a good wife or husband or father, whatever your roles are that are important to you? You know, when I look back on my journey and this is my second business, so real estate B school is my second business. My real estate team was my first business. Took me about five years to build the real estate team to a $3 million business that runs like clockwork without me messing with it one day a week. You know, I've done pretty much the same thing in this business where this is kind of all I get to do is the podcast and these videos and this is how I can add value in this world and minimize the amount of hours that I work. And still we have a multi million dollar business in real estate B school. And the more that I've chosen to, you know, every week I get a massage, every week I float in a salt, salt bath. Everyone makes fun of me. It's like pitch dark, 94 degrees, like floating in the Dead Sea. And every morning I meditate, you know, I drink a gallon of water. Every day I have time blocks where I am out of pocket, even to my family. And you know, those are the rituals, those are the things that I've had to build into my business. And the more I do that, the more I have the energy just to kick the during the day. You know, in the hours I choose to put into my business, the more energy I have at the end of the day to show up and engage with my kids. And at the end of the night, you know, that 8, 9pm where most folks are barely, you know, even breathing at that point, and the only thing they have the energy to do is click the on button on the remote control. You know, I'm able to engage with my wife in a way where she feels loved and we can have that special time and I can actually have the energy to be there and be fully present with her and not be drawn to just check out and sort of numb out. And so when you think about where you are in your business growth journey and where you're spending your time and where you have, you know, eight or 10 balls up in the air, you know, what does that look like for you right now? You know, we have a time freedom challenge going on. So you're probably thinking like, yeah, that's great, Lars. You know, that might work for you. How? I have it different, right? My life is different. I have different priorities. You know, I'm at a different season in my life and all that's well and good. I just want to give you a few tangible things that you absolutely could do to shift even slightly where you are today to closer to where you want to be. The first thing is to create an ideal week, you know, to put on paper what you want your week to look like by day, by half hour increments. We take our new members through this exercise. First thing we have them do, and we have to challenge them to be honest with where they're spending their time. So that's the first thing. And then to put that ideal week into your calendar. Everybody knows about time blocking. Very few people actually time block against what they want their week to look like. And so they're just disoriented all the time. It's complete chaos. Personally and professionally. There's a complete confusion about business and life and when I should be doing real estate, when I shouldn't be doing real estate, it becomes really confusing. That's the next thing after that. It's your daily cadence. Like how are you, you know, organizing your day, your top three things that have to happen in a day, the things you're grateful for every day, what's your intention for the day, you know, your affirmations. Every day I go through that, you know, not seven days a week, a full five days a week to make sure that I'm actually doing the things that are in my ideal week because they're in my calendar. And now it has to translate to every day. The last thing is to start your day with a morning routine. This is the essence of putting on your oxygen mask first. And it's just spending a little bit of time with yourself. And I do a handful of things in the morning. I hydrated, I spend time in the Bible, I write in my journal, I do a meditation. These are things that are non negotiable that I have to get through if I'm going to be any good to anyone else. So I prioritize every day, these moments in time, these things that I do. The personal wellness routine. Every morning I think of one of our members, Christina Valkenoff, who had a pretty good business. She was doing about 30 million when we met. She grew her business in a few years to about 50 million. The real fun part of the story is that she was working seven days a week and really fell out of love with her real estate business. And even though we were able to grow her business, we took her from seven days a week to four days a week. I challenged her to take a clarity break once a week. A clarity break. As I explained it, she misinterpreted. A Clarity break is 90 minutes where technology free. You're just writing in a journal what's working, what's not working in the areas of life that matter to her. And for her it was being a wife, being a mom, being a businesswoman, and then taking care of her physical body, emotional well being. And she had faith. So her spiritual journey was important to her. And it was just that process of a clarity break. She took it to mean that she was going to take every Friday off. So she went from seven to five days and I challenged her to take a clarity break. And she took every Friday off and she prioritized her personal wellness. She wasn't going to work evenings anymore. So it was Monday through Thursday, no evenings, no weekends, Fridays off. She went from 30 million to 50 million when she prioritized her personal wellness. And you could do the same thing in your business. So those are just some tactical ways that you can go about, you know, bridging the gap from where you are today to where you want to be. I appreciate you being here.
