The Good, Bad & Ugly: How to Crush Your Goals in the 5 Key Areas of Your Life

A real estate pro walks through setting goals across seven life areas: business, finances, faith, fun, family, fitness, and future. Use the 314 framework: three-year vision, one-year targets, ninety-day sprints. Think marathon, not sprint, and build in community service.
Hey there, Business Freedom podcast listeners. Another good, bad, ugly addition to the podcast. This is my chance to hopefully inspire, give hope and speak truth about my journey in real estate and where I see the industry going and what I can help you do about it. And today I want to chat a little bit about, you know, what do you, what does 2019 look like for you? And specifically, what does it look like for you to Crush it in 2019? You know, in real estate b school, we go through an exercise, we call it our 314 13. So we sketch out a three years. Very specifically, what does your business look like, your personal life look like, your finances look like, your health, your spiritual health, what does it look like three years from now? Then one year, we break it down into five personal, five professional goals and we track those quarterly. And then the 90, is that living in that 90 day world. And then there's 13 weeks in every 90 days for you. Today I want to focus and challenge you on what 2019 looks like for you. And it's really, you know, whatever you consider the major areas of your life to be, you know, it should have some sort of, you know, it's personal, professional, so some element of, you know, what does the business look like at 12:31, 2019? What does the business look like? You know, how many homes will you have sold? How many hours will you have worked? Do you have standards around when you work and when you don't work? Right. This is your opportunity to put on paper what your business is going to look like, including the rules of the game. How do your clients work with you if you're still in production? And then your finances, what do your finances look like at the end of 2019? Be honest with yourself here. What are your finances look like now? One thing I think I'm pretty good at is just being honest about a current situation where I am in a current area. And the more real I am about that, the easier it is for me to take that area to a different level. So if your area, if your finances are not where they need to be, you should regularly go through a net worth calculation. So every month, every quarter, worst case, our members go through calculating their net worth for you. What does your net worth look like? Is it where you want it to be? And what steps could you take in 2019, even though the market is shifting, don't let the shift mess with your psychology. So where are your finances going to be? So your business, your finances, what does your faith look like? Right? Are you, if you're a Believer. Are you getting in the word regularly? Are you attending church? Are you in a men's group or a women's group? Are you doing the work that you're put here to do? And if it's not faith for you, if you're not a believer in a certain sort of faith, then maybe it's your spiritual walk. Your psychology, right? How is your psychology? We call that fun. That's another F. I have a lot of these Fs. I call them the five. I actually have seven Fs, but we'll stick to five. So fun. What are you going to do for fun in 2019? Is that in your calendar? Your family, your relationship with your spouse? If you have children, right. If you have siblings that you should be interacting with more and supporting and encouraging? What does your family look like a year from now? Contrast that with where things are right now. Your fitness. Where is your fitness? One thing I have learned about for me in my fitness is these grand gestures and challenges. And they're fun, right? A 60 day health challenge is fun. Like for the first week, it's not sustainable. So if you're doing these sort of sprints and these grand gestures and focus in a single area for a period of time, but then it goes back to the way it was, that's not sustainable. And we're not looking to sprint in these areas of our life. We're looking to marathon, right? We're looking to really. For the, for the long game here. So think long game. And 2019 is the first installment in a longer game that you're playing. For me, when I turned 44, I was. I was on a long run in Hilton Head when I turned 44, and I was listening to a book called. What was it called? It was by. It was it finishing well? Let me look it up here. It was either finishing well or finishing well. I think it's books. Bob Buford. Yep. Bob Buford Books. Bob, he had. He passed away this year, Buford Books. And I don't think that was the book that I was reading. I was reading Halftime. Yep. So halftime, moving from success to significance, where success is sort of your chasing success and significance. It's not the sort of look at me, I'm significant. It's how do you make an impact in the world? So I was reading that book, Halftime, moving from success to significance, where I had a realization where I just turned 44. That is halftime for me. 22, 0 to 22 was first quarter. 23 to 44 was my second quarter, 45 to 66 is my third quarter. 667 to 88, God willing, is going to be my fourth quarter. And then if I get anything beyond 88, I decided that that's just gravy. And so in my third quarter. So a lot of guys and gals, they pursue success in their third quarter and then they end up not finishing well because they didn't focus on the things that really have a longer game or more of an internal significance. They're making decisions for the short term and not the long term. So where are you in that journey? Right? Which are you past halftime? If you haven't passed halftime yet, when are you going to make the shift? Is that part of what we need to be focusing on? And that's with your family, that's with your fun, that's with your faith, that's with your fitness. It's areas of your life that aren't like imminently in danger of imploding. So it's the Eisenhower grid. I'm throwing a lot at you here. But if you just go to Google and Google Eisenhower grid, it's the urgent versus the important, the critically important. Taking care of your physical body. Sometimes it doesn't feel urgent and we put it on the side because it doesn't feel urgent. So what areas of your life are really important that you should be focusing on, but you're not making them a priority? So that's another thing to consider. So I think I covered it. Faith, fitness, fun, family, finances, future. Are you investing in your future in terms of things that you're more eternal sort of focus? Are you doing work in the community? Are you serving? You know, my children and I did a meal packing event this past Saturday for a local mission. So it's a Christian ministry or mission and they give 90% of the meals that we pack go to third world countries. Right now, every six seconds, there's a child that dies either directly of starvation or to an illness or disease related to not getting the proper nutrition. So in two hours, this group of volunteers, we packed 50,000 meals, which is just unbelievable. And we were supposed to do 50,000 in two shifts of two hours. And the first shift, we took the challenge and we packed 50,000, just us. So I think they probably got 100,000 meals packed. Four hours. So it's stuff like that. Trying to go on a mission trip. I went on a few mission trips a few years ago and then I fell off of it. Honestly, this was my last mission trip was three years ago. And honestly, mission trips feel very selfish. I know we do good work when we go there. It fills me up in a way where I come back rejuvenated and more appreciative of the life that I've been blessed with. And so what things are you focusing on that are more eternal giving back? Right. So that's the challenge, you know, what does the next 12 months look like for you? And, yeah, so that's the message I have for you. This is that time of year where you really need to focus on, you know, the last year, two or three years. Have you moved the needle and really taken these areas that are important to you that we talked about today, have you taken them and taking steps toward moving them to a different level in the future? And that's really. That's the measure of a life well lived, is if you decide on what areas of your life are important and then you actually take steps to move those areas forward. And so that's my encouragement for today. As I say on every one of these podcasts, much love and respect for competing in an industry that is saturated with real estate agents that, you know, honestly shouldn't be in the business and they're not moving to their next level. And so hopefully I'm not describing you because you are investing and at least, you know, getting on this podcast, you know, there's different ways you could take a relationship with us, if you. With real estate, B, school, if you have a desire to do so. That's not why this podcast exists. And I know there are a lot of you out there that are hurting, that could benefit from what we do. So just go to revstrategysession. Com if you're already conventionally successful. Maybe the money is good, but your time is not good, and you don't have that life by design that you're looking for. So, again, much love and respect. We'll talk to you soon. Bye. Bye.
