The Science of Achievement vs The Art of Fulfillment

Solo speaker contrasts the predictable, systems-driven "science of achievement" (step-by-step planning, time allocation, business systems) with the reflective "art of fulfillment" (slowing down, gratitude, presence). The talk includes the speaker's personal backstory (challenging childhood, entrepreneurial drive since 2007), describes weekly and daily rituals used to cultivate fulfillment (weekly wins list and review; daily three gratitudes, three intentions, and an affirmation), and ends with resources for scaling a real estate business (15-minute training at predictablerealestatesuccess.com, programs at getbusinessfoundations.com and realestatebschool.com). The tone is candid, motivational, and instructional, aimed at real estate entrepreneurs seeking both growth and well-being.
So here's a question for you what is more important achievement or fulfillment or even better question what are you after achievement or fulfillment and welcome back to the business freedom podcast this is something that i've been really challenged with over the last man every bit of thirteen years since two thousand seven i got into business and even before that you know coming out of a just like challenged upbringing you know and i don't say that in you know any kind of woe is me kind of way my dad was an active alcoholic until i was fifteen years old my parents divorced when i was four years old and i think you know when when i look back at like my reaction you know and how i chose to live my life coming out of that sort of environment where it was quite chaotic you know single mom who you know was building her own business that was cool to see her you know sort of grind and do what it took to support me and my sister we had a pretty tough road for the first five or six years after she left my mom and we didn't live in a great neighborhood and just some challenges around that when i look at all of that and how i reacted to it you know i chose the path of achievement and you know i think thinking about and i haven't done a you know i've done i've done therapy you know so i've learned a little bit about you know like being from a family of an alcoholic and you know the impact that could have on the children and you know as adult children you know what what that looks like and i chose the path i think there's generally two paths there's this path of let me control everything in my life which to me that equated to the path of achievement like i'm just going to do what's in front of me i'm going to do it really well i'm going to get it done at a high level and i'm just going to achieve achieve keep knocking thing after thing over the other path is maybe a little bit more destructive and you know just medicating in different kinds of ways whether with food or drugs or even alcohol and so i chose this path of achievement and you know when i look back on you know this and this question of achievement and you know there's definitely a step by step path like so i say the science of achievement versus the art of fulfillment you know i can tell you all the things you need to do to be like successful even successful in the non traditional sense traditional success in the real estate industry is horrible in my opinion you're working seven days a week evenings every waking hour is sort of spent in the business on the business doing administrative work for the business or you're stressed out from the business there's like no relief from the business so you know that that's not great even success in our world you know where it leads to a business that allows for freedom you know real estate b school teaches a very different approach to building a real estate business and you know even with that's just a different path how real estate b school and how i define success as a business owner that path though is quite predictable there's a science around it right i can say we've got to look at where you're spending your time first i got to get you to understand all the things a real estate agent can do all the things a manager leader owner needs to do and make time for take you systematically from where you are help you install tools and systems along the way start using our business freedom planner if you're listening to the podcast you didn't see me hold up the business freedom planner that i use myself get you to start using that this three year vision one year plan ninety days weekly commitments your daily planning and cadence and you know there's science around it there's step by step we can do it it's predictable the challenge is that it may not lead you to fulfillment you may get so focused on achieving at a high level in one area of your life that you will miss out on all the good stuff and i am not preaching at you i promise this has been my biggest struggle i'm so focused on achievement that the best case of being so focused on achievement is i mean you get all the stuff so you achieve you make money i have time freedom all of that that's the good part of it the downside is that you exhaust your team because it's never enough you're constantly even if i don't need the money or i don't need more time off i'm just constantly pushing pushing pushing and so you exhaust your team you exhaust your spouse i know my wife julie can attest to the fact that i'm just going all the time and you know you can do some harm in important relationships and you can hurt your physical body and your emotional well being and you can sort of forget to walk close to your creator right there's all these things that this art of fulfillment is a different you know a different animal and it requires just slowing down and installing some some practices in your life that allow you to remember why you're doing what you're doing it you know why you're doing what you're doing it allows you to remember that there are folks that are struggling around you and to connect with individuals i read a really amazing book leadership and self deception and it talks about being in the box and being in the box in this book in this context meant that you constantly think you're sort of it's you against the world and people are sort of pawns in your in your business and in your life they're not actually people and when you get out of the box and you realize just doesn't matter what position i am in a business or you know if i've achieved more than somebody else we're just people and i'm here to help you and you're here to help me and let's you know so it was really good read it's not a book for everybody it really reminds me though of you know i feel less fulfilled when i'm in the box when i'm thinking and maybe this is just entrepreneurial type thinking where the world is out to get me and it's me against the world and i'm sure it stems back from those early days where it felt like growing up in my home it was me against the world like i was just going to shut my door and get my stuff done i was going to do my homework you know and i wasn't going to cause any trouble and i was going to be self motivated and driven and all of that stuff and so it's taken me quite some time to figure out this daily practice and this is a weekly and daily for the most part well i mean it extends quarterly and annually every week i go through a process i'm going to tell you the questions that i do and i look back the week before and this helps with this fulfillment actually it brings science to the fulfillment feeling that i'm now able to experience because i have figured out something i can do systematically to make sure that i'm experiencing fulfillment and joy and i'm present in the moment and i'm feeling the impact i'm having on on my team members and you know in both businesses and you know in real estate b school are our members there and so i look back and i and every week i do my biggest wins list three to five major accomplishments from this past week last week last week's commitments i make commitments every week did you follow through on the commitments you made why or why not i asked myself what's working and not working what went really well this past week what didn't start or stop what will you keep improve start or stop doing and that's four questions i ask myself every week and then i do my whole weekly commitments against my big projects but every day i have hacked that whole science step by step systems driven mind that i have in terms of feeling fulfilled is a process of just daily gratitude and intention and what i do is i start off by writing down three things i'm grateful for every day and then three things i'm going to do to make today great so my intention so my attitude is you know what are you grateful for today write down three things my intention what will i do to make today great and you know on this day i'm looking at this was a tuesday i was grateful for freedom of time and money i was grateful for being able to focus on just twenty percent the only stuff i'm good at and really it's like five percent and for julie being so supportive of me my intention was this is my tuesday team meeting day to bring energy and enthusiasm to my team meeting it's like my one chance a week i get to see them to lift up tatiana who's my marketing coordinator and i'm training her she's a new marketing coordinator i'm doing daily huddles with her and really sort of lifting her up in this new role and and then my intention was to eat well hydrate and get a good workout in and then i do my affirmation which my affirmation is just an im dot dot dot and i wrote in big letters enough i'm enough i don't need to strive i don't need to achieve i don't need to do any of it i'm perfectly created by god to have a big impact to glorify him on this earth and that's it so i thought this was helpful this was i had listened to a podcast where it kind of went through this achievement versus fulfillment and i thought it was worth talking about how i saw this and i've been struggling with this whole feeling of fulfillment and the science and the systems and the tool that i use in my planning system to be able to really feel that joy and that fulfillment and that contentment and so hopefully there is some value here for you if you are at your point if you are at a point in your journey where you know you want to scale
