Have you ever chosen real estate over being with your family and being present with your family? I can think of dozens and dozens of times where I've done this and the pain that it's caused my family, specifically my spouse. You know, when I think about my business growth journey and specifically the days where I was doing real estate the way that I was taught to do real estate by traditional methods and traditional coaches that, you know, focused more on productivity than they did on business building and business principles. And there's no knock against, you know, traditional coaching that's out there. It just really doesn't focus on how do you build sort of foundational systems that allow you to make your business easier to run. Traditional methods will have you doing every single job in your real estate business. And it just becomes really a slippery slope in terms of the promises that we make to our loved ones. And then business gets in the way and they take us away from our loved ones. You know, my journey was really hard. It was. Parts of it were jacked up. I made promises that I didn't keep, and I was so motivated by, you know, the fact that I messed a lot of it up and I didn't want others to do the same. Where I wrote a book. If you stay tuned, I will show to you how to get a copy of that book. Scale or die. I want to tell a story to make the point here when it comes to just sacrificing what we say matters most to us with, you know, our business getting in the way of that. It's the first member of Real Estate B School. The first person to give me money to coach them was Stacy Peterson. And when I think about, you know, someone who is really smart, super driven, willing to do whatever it took to build a business that stood for something, and it was more than just her own individual efforts. It was Stacy Peterson. Here's the challenge, though. She has two kids, pretty much exactly the age of my kids. So when we met, it was 2013, just at the launch of Real Estate B School, which was trying to do a quick calculation, five and seven. So Vivian was five and Cohen was seven. So her daughter and her son. And she told me a story once where she. It was, this was going to be a family day. Her husband Seth and her kids, and they were just going to have a family day. And she promised, he made her promise that she would not be on her phone for the whole day. And when she tells the story, she tells it way funnier version than I tell it. She's sitting there and I think it was like the Mall of America or something or some big mall where she took a call, and he was just like, the disgust, you know, in her mind, she'd already made this commitment. It was clear as day. And in the moment, she chose business over her family. And I don't tell this story to shame her. I've done it dozens and dozens of times. I still mess it up to this day. You know, it's this attraction to something pressing in the business that seems more important than the thing that's right in front of us. And typically, it's a relationship that we're gonna. We're gonna hurt, and we think that person is just gonna understand, you know, and she tells the story that, you know, Seth took the kids and he just left her. Like, just walked to a different part of the mall. Didn't leave her, like, abandon her or, like, divorce her. I'm sure my spouse has thought about it in those early days. Like, man, what would life be without real estate? How awesome would life be without real estate? You know, our spouses don't want us to sell more homes, because when we sell more homes, typically it just inflicts more pain into our lives. And so Stacy was sort of in this position in her business where she was running a small team. She was, like the expert at the backstage systems, all the client care systems. She was working with buyers, working with sellers, recruiting, onboarding, new agents, prospecting, keeping in touch with her database, doing everything she needed to do to keep that business running. And she really wanted to grow the business, and she had this vision of. Of growing it in a way where it didn't depend on her efforts. Like, this was all her. If she decided to take a day off, stuff broke down. Stuff didn't happen in her business. So we kind of just. When I start working with somebody, you know, we kind of just take. Take a lay of the land. We kind of just assess what's going on. And the biggest thing that was going on was the fact that she was in production and so working with buyers and sellers, and she really didn't have to be in production. You know, it took us about six months. She didn't have a passion for working with buyers and sellers. Her passion was for coaching her agents to live into a life that they never thought was possible. And I'll give you the punchline of the story, because she actually runs real estate B school now. Sort of kind of kill the ending a little bit for you. But at the time, she really wanted to just spend her time Lifting up others so they can achieve their goals. And so helping buyers and sellers did not. That wasn't a part of it. So it took us about six months to get her out of working with buyers, to get her out of working with sellers. She had some decent agents that could take over that production for her and then she could focus on shoring up all the systems. So buyer sales process, like buyer packets, buyer presentation, listing packets, listing presentation, pre listing packets, the client care system for active buyers and active sellers, the contract to closing systems, like just dialing in all of those systems. So the business would run without her having her hands in it all of the time. So six months out of production, fast forward two, two and a half years later, tripled the size of her business. She was able to come into my world, this world, real Estate B school, and help me coach and serve team members that were struggling the same way that she was. She was the same heart she had for serving her agents and her team members is the same heart she brought to Real Estate B school. And she was even able to help me shore up the systems that real Estate B school had at the time. Because what we have now is not what we had back then. Right? We've been at this constant iteration and this journey of making things better, making systems easier to rip off and duplicate. And so she went down to two days a week in that real estate business, three days a week coaching. Finally, she decided that her passion wasn't in a real estate business. She got a more than seven figure valuation on her real estate team in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and sold her business to come on full time for real estate B School. I tell you that story just to know if you ever have the chance to coach with Stacy and be a part of her world through real estate B school, you should definitely do it. She doesn't do one on one anymore. She'll occasionally do a weekly training and she's just a master at her craft. And I also tell you this story because she started in a really hard place. She was struggling to show up in all the areas of life that she had commitments around. And she made a decision just to look at her business differently. And you know, the time, money, stress equation did not make sense for her. It literally was scale or die. You know, I wrote the book Scale or Die for folks exactly in her shoes.
