Why Did You Choose Real Estate? (The Truth Behind Agent Success)

A real estate agent explains why he stayed in the business despite its challenges. He uses weight loss as an analogy for how daily habits compound into success, drawing on ideas from James Clear's Atomic Habits.
We have people saying, I don't want to talk to my database, I don't want to post on social media and I don't want to talk to strangers. Expired or fizz buzz. And I'm like, why are you in real estate? Like, what are we talking about? There's nobody you want to have a conversation with. So the net net of it. And I've been doing this for a long time, so I'm very ornery and sort of pissed off about it. When you say you're not successful but you're not doing the daily work if your bank account isn't where you want it to be and you've been in real estate for three, four, five years, it does likely come down to this one thing, James Clear atomic habits. And I can relate to this in and I'm always listening to it with a different issue in my life where I'm making these grand gestures. So I'll do it in my physical body. I'll get to 220, which is my not good weight, and then I'll push hard for 90 days to get down to 190 to over the next six to nine months get back to 220. And I've lost 200 pounds that way. I'm always losing the same 30 pounds. There's a quote in the book that says the goal isn't to run a marathon, the goal is to become a runner.
