A study gave high school students three tasks: smile, visualize a happy place for 15-20 minutes, or do something joyful like art or dance. Blood tests showed all three groups had comparable increases in antibodies, suggesting brief positive emotions can boost immune markers.

There have been numerous case studies that actually show the correlation and the connection between our emotions and our immune system. One of the tests that I always get so interested in is they took students, high school students, and they put them in three groups. They tested their blood to see where their immune response was. Then they took them. And the first group, they told them to just smile, and they had them just literally smiling and they took their blood. And the second group of people, they actually told them to just connect to their happy place. Whatever it is that makes them feel so happy, brings them so much Joy for like 15, 20 minutes. Then they took the other group and they actually had them do what makes them happy. Some people did artwork, some people dance, some people played sports, played volleyball. And they tested them. And one of the things that they saw in all three of these increased of the antibodies were almost the same. So one thing I'm going to tell you is, especially after these last couple weeks where people have been feeling so distressed, feeling so hopeless, feeling so much sorrow, one thing I could tell you is just smile. You don't have to visualize it. You don't have to go out and play. It literally makes a difference on your antibodies and then affects your immune system. We need to stay healthy. So smile and move.
