Is just catching up with the East. The East has already known that often a spiritual answer, rather than looking to the material world, will give us some kind of peace. So we're going to find out some more about this. I'm talking to Leilah Mirza from Gracing Lives, and the website is gracinglives.co.uk. That's gracinglives.co.uk. We're going to talk about this spiritual thing, and it may not necessarily be what you think it is. It isn't necessarily some kind of a blinding light, which changes your life in seconds. But it's more an understanding, maybe feeling a little bit more comfortable and accepting of yourself. So Leilah, I guess we're all looking for happiness because nobody wants to be miserable, so it's obvious that we want to find answers. Do you think in the West we're almost afraid to ask even the questions to kind of look for this help?
I think people are more afraid to speak and to ask because they don't want to be frowned upon and they don't want to be judged. So yes, absolutely, you can have everything externally and physically, but it's all about the inside, and that's what people is searching to understand. So I think what people are mostly searching for is to understand this spiritual self, or perhaps understand the human experience.
Yes, yes, because we can almost define it by our job or our relationships, but of course that's not who we are. That's a part of what we are, but it's not us as such.
Yes, absolutely. Like, you know, people think they can define themselves by the value they have or by the way they look. Everything's very external. But when you speak to someone about, are you happy? Will you be your own best friend? They pause. So people speak about things that they think matters the most. How big is my car? What is my house going to be like? But they don't speak about what really matters, which is the big things about the value of your life. And this really comes to mental health as well.
Yes, I suppose, because if you, if you spend a whole lifetime searching for the answer in the material world and you don't get it, it can affect your mental health because you must feel, well, what is wrong with me? Why am I different?
Yeah, and I think this is something that's become, you know, a bit of a— it's, I would say, a bit of a cliché in today's journey as well, because I feel that a lot of people are struggling, and the biggest struggle, it's because people are struggling to understand the human experience a lot more. Because we are all just spiritual beings having the human experience, as Dr. Wayne Dyer has explained.
Yes. And this human experience is almost— if you're not careful, you can miss it and not enjoy it.
Absolutely. Like, if you do not embrace yourself and accept things for what is happening to you, it just becomes a misery.
And you do— you have clients and they come to you. So, Try and demystify the process. How does that actually work? So obviously somebody's reached some kind of a problem area in their life, they come to see you, what happens next?
It's interesting because sometimes I have people who would come to me perhaps just for one thing, and because it's quite an holistic store and we're open, I'm basically on the road almost. People come there wanting something, usually they don't know, so they're going, 'I need a rose quartz,' or, 'I think I may need incense,' and I'm looking at them like, 'No, I think you need some answers.' perhaps, or some understanding. And some people just come because they have some curiosity. I just want a session, I'm not sure what's going to come out. And either way, we're all just catalysts in that journey.
And you've spoken of before a spiritual awakening. So what exactly is that? And is that a kind of a doorway into, or the beginning of, an answer?
I suppose the spiritual awakening is— it's become one of like a fashion topic, you know, like the namaste is in now, and Buddha, wherever you go to the shop, you're buying a Buddha, you're getting namaste, and green tea is in, and yoga is in now, and people are thinking this to be such a trend and such a beautiful thing, but it's not the reality of a spiritual awakening. Some people have a perception that a spiritual awakening happens when you hit your midlife crisis, You know, and some people, and I'm one of those people, that I believe a spiritual awakening can erupt at any time. You know, it could be through a traumatic event that allows you to go internal. Last week I had a client, she called me, she said, Leilah, do you think what I'm going through is a spiritual awakening? I said, well, a spiritual awakening could happen once you've divorced your husband and you've gone through an internal trauma where you're sitting with yourself, where you're starting to ask What, what am I wanting in my life right now? We start seeing the world very differently, you know. Sometimes spiritual awakenings are not designed to be beautiful. They're bringing up things that's been suppressed within us. We're confronting our own shadows and our own demons. So yeah, we could be going through a spiritual awakening at any time, and all it just means that the way we perceive the world starts to change. Thank you, Leilah Mirza.
Some interesting points and a more practical way to look at this spiritual awakening, which some people might think is some kind of a blinding or flashing light. We'll talk some more in just a moment.
