Don't Ignore the Quiet Quitters

In this talk, Lisa Murphy introduces the REAL conversation framework as a proactive method to prevent sudden resignations and quiet quitting. She explains why traditional short check‑ins miss deep career stagnation, using a case study of a top‑performing project manager who felt stuck for 11 months. The framework consists of four steps: (1) schedule a 30‑minute uninterrupted session dedicated solely to mapping the employee’s 18‑month career trajectory; (2) listen strictly to the employee’s frustrations without offering solutions or defending the company; (3) extract one concrete, actionable commitment (e.g., a new project or flexible schedule) and implement it within 30 days; and (4) embed this specific feedback loop into a quarterly cadence. By replacing vague promises with tangible momentum, the employee feels seen, receives a new challenge, and stays with the organization, thereby avoiding the high cost of turnover (estimated at twice the employee’s salary).
