5 Days Out: Do I Take Fat Burners ?

Rob Lipsett, five days before his physique competition, breaks down his supplement stack and daily meals. Most fat burners are just caffeine with a 1% metabolic boost, he says, and his actual regimen is fish oil, creatine, and vitamin D. His prep day includes a kale-banana shake, turkey with sweet potatoes, and cod with veg.

Good fucking morning, everyone. 5 days out. Am I actually doing this? But anyways, right, so this morning, you know the way I try to include some information as I go about my day. This morning, I'm going to talk about a topic that I hate talking about. And that is fat burners. Let's get into it. Okay, fat burners, do they work? Before we even get into this, I'm just gonna say they are mainly just caffeine, and they will provide the, like, maybe not even a 1% benefit. Okay, caffeine has been shown it can speed up, or any stimulant can speed up your metabolism. You know, it makes you move more, it makes you more energetic, it makes you fidget more. So therefore it will make you burn more calories in a day. It'll increase your TDEE, your total daily energy expenditure. It also may help you get through tough workouts when you're dieting and low on energy. Okay. And that is pretty much what fat burners are. They're just kind of like, they're like pre-workout in a pill. Probably heard people say that before, a lot of them nowadays are just caffeine because a lot of the serious ingredients have been banned. Now Myprotein just brought out this one. The reason it kind of caught my eye is because it's got this ingredient called TeaCrine in it. And now TeaCrine, I actually think I saw Danny Lennon mention it in a post on Facebook or something, but it's meant to be a similar compound to caffeine and just have a few more pros and a few less cons that caffeine does. Apparently you don't grow a tolerance to it as easily. So I'm just taking them at the moment. Please Please don't go and say, "Oh, this— hey, guess what? Shredded Rob Lipsett is taking fat burners, so I have to as well." It's like a cherry on top. You need to have your diet, your cardio, and your training sorted. So, you know, that's my take on fat burners. They're not even on my recommended supplement list. You know, my general recommended supplement list is like fish oils, creatine monohydrate, and vitamin D, maybe a multivitamin, maybe some ZMA if your calories are low, 'cause your nutrients would be low, so therefore supplementing with vitamins may be helpful. So like, fat burners aren't even on my recommended supplement list, and you gotta keep in mind that I get all my supplements for free. That is my take on fat burners. They may have some benefits when you're dieting, and another thing that is true is they work as placebo. When people begin a diet and they start taking fat burners, they're like, "Oh, I'm taking fat burners, so I really gotta stay on track with my diet and training." So it's actually that they're more strict with their diet and training that's getting them results, not the fat burners, if you know what I mean. Anyways, look, son, make some breakfast, get on with my day. Hope you enjoyed that little spiel on fat burners. Just got this notification. "Rob, could you do daily uploads?" Well, Harry, it is your lucky day, or lucky week, I should say. Also, that's how I reply to most of the comments. Some of them just come up as notifications and I'll just bang, bang them out on my phone. Doesn't matter how much the channel grows, I'm still always gonna try and answer comments. I think it just like, it makes the channel a bit more of a community vibe to it. Yeah, the comment section is fun. Like, you guys always leave fucking hilarious comments as well. Alright, so same again this morning, gonna be another kale shake. And you are gonna notice this week I'm gonna be adopting more of a meal plan meal plan approach. I just want to keep as little variables as possible, you know, to see what bloats me, what digests well, what kind of reacts well with me. You gotta just be this exact if you were stepping on stage. So yeah, chocolate brownie whey isolate, cocoa powder, and some protein milk banana flavor from MyProtein, then kale and banana and ice. Alrighty, so I am just off to hit legs and abs now, and there will be a bit more emphasis on abs because I'm not even gonna squat today. I'm gonna do leg press instead right now on these low calories, these low-ish carbs. Pretty tired at the moment and I want to kind of save my energy. Just, I'm, I'm pretty worn out at the moment. So today I will just be doing leg press, straight leg deadlifts, leg extensions, leg curls, calves, and then finishing off with 2, maybe 3 ab exercises probably cable crunches and hanging leg raises. So let's go. I just had coffee for pre-workout, nothing extreme. So let's go hit it. Alright, we're back. That session was a little bit meh, but look, we got through it, we survived. So I kind of prepped some sweet potatoes here. I just microwaved them while I was gone. So now I'm going to bake them to make them a little bit crispy. I'm going to put some turkey with that and some broccoli, and that's going to be my lunch. So it's a BK Flamer turkey burger. Kerrigan's link is in the description box. Sweet potato's going at it, and broccoli's in the microwave. So there we go, got the potatoes nice and crispy, and also threw some peppers in there just to spice things up. This is quickly turning into a full day of eating, but I think this is just a good way to show you guys what my diet's going to be like for the week. So it's going to be the usual Greek high-protein Greek yogurt, raspberries, and then I'm also going to have a little fiber bar on the side too. Later on in the week, closer to the show date, I'm gonna reduce the fiber in my diet just to cause less bloat, less food volume in my stomach, just get that waist as small as possible. All right, so literally just put live yesterday's video, so the 6 days out. Like, obviously, you know, the video that I put live every day is going to be the day before So I just put live 6 days out, I'm recording 5 days out right now. And I go and publish it and I was just like, oh, here it goes. There's no going back now. But like, it's really motivating, like all the nice comments from everyone and you know, I did a comment there and it's like, possibly doing daily vlogs this week, what do you think? And I got a lot of thumbs up, so you know, that's what I love about YouTube. You can, it's like, it's like TV but you can get like feedback and make your videos better in that sense. Also my new intro, that was made by a lovely lad called Tom Miller. I've linked his website below the last couple of videos and this one. People are always asking me, Rob, where'd you get your intro, mate? How do you do it? Just give this guy a shout, tell him I sent you. Alright, so for dinner I'm gonna have 2 cod fillets, some mixed veg, and there's some like peppers and lentils up in there. And then I'm gonna have a shaker full of some icy cold water. So last meal of the day is gonna be some casein protein, some almond milk, and which is great seeing as it's just 13 calories per 100ml. It's great for kind of like filling up the jug. Bit of iced latte and some peanut butter flavor drops from Myprotein. Links in the description box. One thing I do notice with the casein is that I feel it keeps me full for a long time. You know, it's really thick. So I'm gonna wrap things up here with the final— So on the last Instagram post I did, there was like a few people asking this question. They're like, what's better, potatoes or sweet potatoes? And like this, some people are just coming out with a load of shit, and there's literally none better than the other. This chart explains it here. When you pit them against white potatoes for overall nutritional value, it's a virtual tie. So I just thought I'd throw that in there, hit you guys with some informative content. Eat whichever one you like more. I like them both. All right, wrapping things up there. I will see you guys at the same time tomorrow for 4 days out. Today was 5 days out, and I'm road tripping down to Galway. That'll be interesting. I'm probably gonna have to do a little bit of meal prep in the morning. We'll see. See you tomorrow. Keep it real.
