BACK IN THE GYM | My Physique After 3 Months Off

Rob Lipsett returns to Fight City Gym in London after three months off training. He's lost barbell strength despite doing dumbbell work at home, and his shoulder still needs attention from physio John Daly. The workout is moderate volume to rebuild the mind-muscle connection and test where he stands.

Good morning everyone from beautiful sunny London. That was a joke. I'm not sure if you can see it, but it's lashing rain. Anyways, today is a great day. Let me tell you why. I was actually cycling around London. I got a bike not too long ago and I'm obsessed with it. I cycle everywhere and I bumped into a subscriber, somebody who watches the channel. Channel, but has also been to a lot of events that I have put on, Creator Agency events. The legend himself, who you meet later on, is actually a physio here in London. He's Irish, but he's living in London. The Irish community is huge here, which I love. So he said to me, if you've got any knocks or anything, come do a physio session with Sorce. My shoulder has been at me recently, which we'll get into. On top of that, he was like, okay, yo, so this gym is attached to my practice. So I was like, gym? Gave me a look at it. It's a proper hard hardcore gym. It's called Fight City Gym. If that doesn't sound badass enough, I don't know what does. So today you might be seeing the first gym footage on this channel in months. Hopefully that it's open and we've access to it, but either way, I've been so excited for this. Got it wrote out on my whiteboard. And yeah, hopefully that it's open and that we can just go in there. It'll just be amazing. Right now it's about half 7, 8 AM, and so I still look a little bit tired. Yeah, we're gonna have— see, fridge Bear, BearTeng Man, Bear in it. I still haven't got the English slang. And one of these, probably gonna make some bacon sausages and then chill out for a little bit. So yeah, anyways, give the video a thumbs up because we might be hitting the gym today. Please God, let's go! Also, this is my current rig, current level of body fat and muscle as well. And then today we're going to test out our strength. See how it is after the last couple of months. So it's like a— it's like an experiment. I don't think that my physique has completely gone to shit from doing home workouts. Definitely maintained pretty much everything. Body fat, you know, could be better, and strength I think will have decreased quite a bit, but we'll see. Still got pretty visible abs. That's where we're currently at. Not the best angle. I'll definitely, um, get a better angle in the gym later. But, uh, yeah, time for big old progress update. All right, look at this goodness. Okay, we got, we got some peppers, jalapeños, low-fat bacon, high-protein, low-fat sausages from Musclefood. Link in the description. We're gonna put some ketchup on that, some mustard— both great condiments to add flavor to your meal while keeping the calories low. If you get the low sugar one— you can't get low sugar one, recess your life. So I'm just gonna eat this eggshell for a little bit and then prepare for the big day ahead. 3 hours later. So I still to clean myself up a little bit and make a move soon though. But okay, I do things with protein bars, of course I do. I put them under the grill and it honestly makes them look like warm cookies. I'm going to have a coffee with that as well. So that's my little kind of midday snack. And then, so yeah, let's get tied up a little bit and go check out this gym. Oh my God, I can't believe it's happening. All right, all right, we are going to do a scoop of Scyz creatine product. We are gonna do a scoop of the infamous whiskey sour. And wait a second, this is also two things I take every day, is vitamin D and fish oils, just from a random company I got in the shops. I can't believe this is actually about to happen. We are gonna hit the gym, but first we're gonna do the physio as well. So I'm gonna put everything in this new Alphalete bag that is launching this Saturday. Use my code Lipsett. By the time you are watching this vlog, this backpack may be live on Alphalete. Insane. It's like I'm coming from future, but not the future. All right, let's hit the road. So on the way to the gym/physio, and by the way, I cycle everywhere in London. I got the cheapest bike in a bike shop near me about 2 weeks ago. Absolutely love it. It's probably been the best way I got to know what the city is like and the layout of everything. And honestly, when you're as fast at cycling as me, it's like the same amount of time as an Uber. People are gonna sound clip that, gonna be like, Rob cycles. Trend. Sorry guys, I should be there in about 20 minutes. This is a good little warm-up as well. And yeah, I'm excited. I'm just cycling through Central now. It's crazy, all the statues are like boarded up. And I even remember when I was coming through here the other day, there was like cops surrounding it and stuff. It's all just crazy. Jesus, something's going off now again. But yeah, always something going on, always film crews. It's mad. Jesus. Oh, these crazy views. I'm still such a tourist here, it's great. Hey guys, so here we are. We are with the man himself, John Daly. And if you guys need a physio in London, I'm gonna put his username here, @physiolondon. Did I get that right? John Physio, L-D-N. There we go. There, I'll put that on the screen. But okay, so not only do we have a physio here, look what is just outside the door. This is the first time you are seeing a gym on this channel in way too long. And what a gym at that as well. Like literally bigger, stronger, faster, tougher. Can't get more hardcore than that. This is obviously a step above from the little bench and the 2 sets of dumbbells in my living room. So I say you are going to enjoy this video a lot more. It's going to be a lot more interesting to watch. But so my shoulder has actually been at me a little bit. I actually think it's maybe because I've been a bit rusty and I haven't been training and doing the usual movements that I do usually do. So for example, I do a lot of face pulls which, you know, I'm sure you agree they're great for rotator cuffs. So we're going to have a look at that today anyways and try to see if we can fix it a little bit. It's nothing too serious. I can still definitely train, but I just want to nip it in the bud before it gets worse. So me and John had a sit down. We went over some causes of shoulder pain and what to do going forward. He's a great guy and I'm always happy to see other Irish people in London. So definitely go check him out. As I do this voiceover, it's a few days later. My shoulder is feeling so much better. So I'm looking forward to being able to do some heavy incline pressing soon, as I find that is what aggravates it the most. Anyways, now let's get on to the workout. It has been announced that gyms in England will be reopening on July 25th, so before that I will be doing a full whiteboard video where I go in depth on how to approach training after some time off. I'm actually going to Ibiza on 22nd of July to go see Mr. Mike Thurston, aka the Mahogany Overlord, aka Chesty Mcchesterson. So him and Louie be over there, so I really can't wait for that. It'll be my first bit of travel in 6 months, if not more. So big whiteboard video coming before that, but today I'll just be giving some quick tips and reporting on how I felt. I did a full body workout and didn't push myself to or past failure at any stage. I really just went in there looking to dust off the cobwebs, get a pump, and focus on some good mind-muscle connection, and of course enjoy myself. Reps were mostly around 8 to 12. I didn't go crazy on volume either. Machine-based exercises felt completely foreign to me in a good way. You know, they're really enjoyable, and it's very interesting to me as it shows how long it's been since I've done something like a leg press or the leg extension. Those just seemed completely foreign again. It was crazy. Holding a barbell was another strange one, as again, I don't have access to these at home. So my strength on barbell movements has decreased a lot. Seeing as I have some dumbbells and a bench at home, these movements were fine really, and strength seems to still be there, but it was still nice to do them inside a gym, and in some sick lighting at that as well. I also found it interesting that even though I was using dumbbells over the past couple of months, the strength didn't really carry over to barbell movements as much as I thought it would. One factor that will hugely impact what your approach to going back to training will look like is what exactly have you been doing with your time off? Did you get some weights and equipment while you're at home like I did? Did you do cardio and bodyweight stuff only? Maybe you did nothing at all, but we will go in depth on this in the upcoming video. One thing that was very, very much still missing today was the atmosphere, and makes me realize how much of an important role that plays in the whole gym experience. Nevertheless, I'm still delighted to have access to this, and I'm certainly not complaining. The gym is actually called Fight City Gym. It's in central London, and I'll be back for sure. I'm also very motivated to rebuild up to where I was after today's session too. It'll kind of be like having noob gains all over again. Love it. Thank you. Hello, Rob? Yeah, yes, thank you, sir. Cheers. All right, so we did the quickest turnaround ever. I'm ready to go. I'm meeting a mate in a place called Bocconcino Restaurant, which is on Berkeley Street. So let me just find it. It's Italian and I haven't eaten all day. I've done like hour and a half of cycling, big gym session as you guys saw. Um, so yeah, let me eat some pizza. All right people, so we're going to finish up the vlog here with a big close-up of the huge pasta. So this place is Bocconcino London in Mayfair. I'm not sure I'm saying that right, but either way, looks amazing. I'll see you in the next one. Hope you enjoyed a bit of gym footage today. Keep rail. I'm outta here. Peace.
