Back To Where It All Started...

Rob Lipsett returns to Raw Gym Academy, where his fitness career started, to share how he dropped out of college, built a following from zero on Facebook, and worked for free while growing his brand. What is going on everyone? Welcome to today's video. So it is a Sunday, and it's gonna be a productive Sunday, 'cause it is the first weekend of the Raw Gym Academy, which is the personal trainer academy that is attached to Raw, hence the name. I am going in and giving a guest lecture. I spoke about this in my last video, and I'm talking about my story, start to finish, which is great, okay, because basically where all these people are now, that's where I started, okay? This is the same course I did years ago. To start off my career in the fitness industry. So things have gone full circle. So this is a talk that means a lot to me. So I'm excited to go in and smash this. So I'm doing Raw City Center first, and then I've got Raw Gym Sandiford in the evening. So we're gonna go in here now, we're gonna do the talk, have some fun, get a workout in, and then get some burritos afterwards. I'm with Ben, by the way. What's up? What's up? Hey, what is going on everyone? Okay, so basically my name is Rob Lipsett, as some of you may or may not know, and where you guys are sitting right now is where I started, okay? So we've got plenty of time today, you know, it's a very nice intimate classroom setting, and these are the type of talks that I love to do. And oftentimes when I'm actually doing these talks, I leave out the finer details because I don't want to say like, I dropped out of DIT, screw this business, they fired me. But with you guys, I am going to do that because again, it's just chilling, okay? It's like friend to friend, okay? We should all double down on our strengths. I'm not going to be— I can't even pronounce the word. It's like numerical— something to do with numbers, right? I'm not going to do that. So why am I trying to force myself to do something that I not only hate but I'm not good at. You know, I took a step back and I was like, what do I love? What am I good at? What am I genuinely interested in? That is training and nutrition. So part-time alongside college, I signed up, I was a member here, and I signed up to do this course. Not even just fitness, it's self-improvement, bettering yourself. I think it's an amazing kind of, um, route to go down. So I really hope you guys are all on the same page that I was, you all have that fire inside you to really kind of learn about this, really grasp it and really make it part of your life. And so I literally just started a Facebook page and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. I was so afraid of what people would think. I'm literally freaking out. I put the page live and I like had a heart attack pretty much. No, I swear to God. I was like, oh God, what happened? I slammed the laptop, threw it out the window, ran away. Like, I freaked out, okay? And oftentimes when you want to start a business, business, it's there and thrown to you every single day, and it's just a problem that you need to solve. That is another thing, okay? I was dishing out pants for free when I first started public speaking. I was doing that for free. Things are slow at the beginning. You can't expect things to just take off immediately. Imagine you went into KPMG, Deloitte. Imagine you just went in like, I'd like to be the CEO. You just walked in, you're like, hi, I'm here for the director's position. It doesn't work like that, okay? You obviously need to start at the bottom and work your way to the top. Don't be afraid to work for free at the very beginning. Another brilliant example, this superstar right over here, getting the angles. And again, we just started working with each other. Ben was like a subscriber, which is so funny to think of now, because we're such good pals. And now he is working with one of the biggest companies on the planet, which is Red Bull, and he's signing contracts I started doing more plans. I started charging for plans. So now we're going to actually go into my kind of, not exactly top 10 tips, but kind of my core fundamentals of online business and growing your channel. If you open your textbooks to page number 273. That was in 2016. In 2017, it's gotten even more extreme. So if you are not using social media in today's day and age, then you need to get your act together. 'Cause it's free, you can post as many times as you want, and you can reach your direct audience, okay? Imagine you put an ad in some newspaper. 80% of the people who read that might not even be into the gym. They might just be some, you know, some old granny who doesn't care about getting bigger biceps, right? It's like, this is so much fun, I love my clients, I'm building great relationships here. That is how you wanna be. So have fun with it and of course be patient as well. When I got like my first 1,000 subscribers, I think I was probably happier than when I got like 300,000. Because I was literally like at the time I was like, "Oh my God, there's 1,000 people watching my videos. This is amazing." And then over time it gets a little bit more normal. But so that's why I really didn't burn out at the start. Because I was so buzzing just every step of the way. So be patient and enjoy every step of the way. He'd be like, oh, here, take this picture for me, okay? Phone was in pieces, cracked screen, and they're like, oh wait, oh, it's froze. So that is— if you're going to go into an online business, that is very important to have a decent camera. You don't have to get the best one, but just something that works and something that's going to get clear image to pop out. Because when you think about it, you're scrolling through, you're scrolling through your Facebook, your Instagram, or your Twitter, all your pages. You need your images, you need your content to pop out. Okay, for anyone, okay, my haters are my motivators. The way I put it, okay, someone has time of the day to create a fake profile to watch an entire video to form an opinion on it, to type out a hateful comment, to press enter, to sit back and just be like, "Yeah, I got him! What a loser!" Oh my God, it is just like— when you think about it like that, when someone's actually taking that amount of time and effort out of their day, what type of person do you think that person is? Do you think there's some billionaires, some really successful people who are killing it in life, do you think they're making fake profiles and posting on your YouTube videos, posting hate? No. Okay, so oftentimes a person that is like hating on your videos or hating on your content, they're not happy with themselves or they're really bored. So I really— it doesn't get to me, and oftentimes I just kind of laugh at it. I'm like, sometimes the comments are funny, like, you know, sometimes the hateful comments are funny. And I'm like, that was a good one. But so for every one bad comment is 99 really nice comments. And especially if you're putting out beneficial content, good content. Like last night I was out for dinner and the guy that was serving us, after the meal was done, he was like, "Ah, here, look, I didn't want to say this, but basically I'm a big fan of your videos." And he whipped out his phone and he was like, "You've helped me lose 8 stone." So a 100-pound transformation. Dude was jacked now, looked better than me. So I'm like, that was the best feeling ever. Like, think about how good that makes you. So for every bad comment, there's just an amazing— It's the weirdest— it's like seeing a ghost. You're literally— you turn the page and you're just like, exactly what I wanted to happen happened on this day. But all right, we got some food. Hello. Yeah, yeah, you're right. Enjoy the rest of your day. Right, so quick little fuel up, burrito bowl. I always envy Ben's burrito bowls because he goes full on with the sour cream, the cheese, the guac. I've been wearing like I skipped out on the rice, like I'm trying to lean up for Vegas, which I'm going to on Wednesday. But yeah, so I just got— what is this, like pico, corn, chicken steak, salsa, lettuce, veggies. I love it though, still a great meal. Because I've got so much spare Alphalete Myprotein, because I've got the best sponsors in the world, I'm actually going to kit the whole class out. Like, I got like— that is so much, um, fresh gear to give out to everyone. All right, so very productive Sunday. We had lunchtime, I chilled out for a little bit, got ready, and now we're in location number 2. We're in Raw James Sandiford. Oh my God, I just noticed that. Look at me go, so mystical. But all right, so now I am going to smash out pretty much the same lecture. I don't really stick to a script, so it'll be different in some ways. Kind of just saying, you know, what's on my mind. You wing it. Yeah, exactly, yeah, my life is winging it. But, uh, so we're gonna do that now and then we're gonna get a workout in. I'll join Simon for an afterwards. So hitting a push workout, and after a really good Saturday night, waking up productive Sunday, I'm just feeling good. I'm feeling like fulfilled, rewarded, and let's make this workout one forever. All right guys, wrapping up today's vlog, and now I'm gonna finish this vlog with talking about goal setting and challenges, right? Because that was, uh, one of the conversations that came up in today's class. And this was like a new challenge for me. There was like a stage there for a couple of months where things were just, you know, everything was going great, you know, and like things were seeming at least a little bit too easy. And so when that happens, sometimes you just need to set yourself a new challenge. You need to set yourself to level up, a new goal. And this was my most recent challenge. And the course, we filled it up, and I'm absolutely delighted. And I met everyone today, and everyone's super nice. So on to the next one. Uh, next trip is going to be Vegas and then LA. So thank you so much for watching, and thank you for following me along on this journey of mine. Keep it real. I'll see you next video.
