Marriage formalizes commitment and creates a higher barrier to leaving, which pushes couples to work through disagreements instead of ghosting. The speaker argues its main value is signaling a long-term partnership built for raising children safely.
Why get married? What's the point of it all? I think the main kind of reason behind marriage is showing you're super committed. You're signing a deal with each other, say, hey, I'm gonna stick with you, you're gonna stick with me, we're gonna start a family and bring kids into a safe relationship. They're hard to get out of for a reason. If you have an argument, let's say you're dating someone and you have an argument, you just have to ghost them. But if you're married and you have an argument, you're like, all right, we're gonna work through this. So I think that's the main reason and benefit behind marriage.
